SOURCE: 2003 deer pocket watch Al Agnew is it wind up or

Often with battery powered watches the word "Quartz" will be written on the dial. In the abscent of that you can look at the mechanism inside (typically by removing the case back).

Alternately (this may not be an absolute confirmation) with the winder in neutral position i.e. pressed all the way in, turn the crown (winding button) and if it spins freely it's probably quartz. Because unless it's broken most mechanical watches click as the watch is
wound up (except some automatics which cant be crown wound).

Plus if it's working and left unworn for a few days yet continues to run it's probably quartz.

Pop the back off the watch with a pocket knife and look, they use so many types of small button batteries it is hard to say, better to look at it and record the battery number.

I got the plastic cover off the face but cannot figure how to get to where i would put a battery in

Most pocket watches open in the back. Usually you have to have a very thin bladed instrument to pop off the back of the case. Since this is a gold watch I would take it to a jeweler to look at it since it is very easy to scratch up the case if you aren't careful.

Try going to "http://www.antique-pocket-watch.com/".

This site seems to be a good point in the search for information on antique watches.

It has a few links to other sites.

How to do you open the case to change the battery?

Take your watch to your nearest watch shop and ask them to do it for you.

You can get into difficulty replacing batteries and it is not worth the risk for the small cost saving in doing it yourself.

I have a fairly old jack daniels pocket watch and i cant seem to find any info on it...value.. manufacturer etc ..I do have a serial number 3780 G

I gave my husband one like you describe when we were dating (1985) that I bought from a antique store dealer. While I knew this wasn't an antique, I still would like info on it. I've called the distillery office, left msgs, and never gotten a response. Ours is serial # 2032G. Would love to have some info.

My Quartz sports watch works, loses time, had three months, .

Sounds like battery is failing. Time to replace it! :-) Sears stores usually have a watch repair counter...or find a reputable watch repair business. (Even if the watch is new...its still possible the battery could be failing because you have no way of knowing when it was originally installed! They typically last about 2-3 years depending on age and condition of watch!)

Good luck!
