Laws very from state to state. I am un-aware of any which ban sale of a unit because it has the "wrong" type of refrigerant in it. What are they going to do with it, just re-cycle an unused unit because it uses R-12 instead of R134A or some other refrigerant? If I had to guess, I'd say it sounds like California.

Fridge runs but is not getting cold

A leak has allowed all the coolant (used to be environmentally-harmful FREON) to escape. So, fans & pumps still work, but no coolant means no cooling.

The AC in my 2003 VW Convertible is not chilling enough. What can I do about it?

Your system may just be low on freon. Most auto parts stores sell 134a freon for about $10 a can. If you visit an Autozone store the parts counter personnel might also show you how to add freon to the VW Beetle, it's not hard once you know where the correct port is located. You simply start your car, connect the freon dispensing hose to the AC port (there are two (2) ports, but the hose connection will only fit onto the smaller of the two (2) ports - the low pressure side). Allow the car to run while the can is discharged into the AC system, generally takes 10-15 minutes. Most dispeners have a freon pressure gauge on the hose portion that attaches to the can. Never disconnect a partially empty can unless there is a shutoff valve, and the valve is closed all the way. Better to add the entire can to the AC system.
If you have never added freon to your 2003 VW Beetle, that's the most likely problem. You could also have developed a slow leak in the compressor or AC lines, so I recommend adding freon WITH a sealant in the same can just in case.

The job would cost between $45 and $65 if you take it to a reputible mechanic to perform. That usually includes a full blown pressure test of the AC system. and a whole list of costly recommendations.

The car can be running like a champ, I turn off the key and go inside a store come back out and it turns over but does not stay running. I let it sit 10-15 minutes and it starts right up. This has happened...

Gm vehicles are known for a failed antitheft system. (that chip on your key) These have been known cause starters not to start and injectors to turn off when they are failing. Read thru this link. Might help

My mom's Jet 3 Ultra was in storage and the batteries do not hold a charge. Where can I purchase new batteries locally? I live in Escondido, California

vb any battery distributor or Interstate battery outlet should have the batteries you need you will need 2 U1 batteries and they will run 175.00 to 215.00 for 2. Do not buy auto batteries and the batteries need to be sealed deep cycle batteries. Do not get at Wal Mart or any other store that wants to sell you unsealed auto batteries Hope this helps you

1) need freon 2) A/C/Heat won't turn off

In '92 most cars were still using r-12 freon, but some were using the newer r-134 freon. If its r-12 you need to have a repair shop recharge it. And they will probably try to sell you on converting the system to take r-134, which wont be cheap. If its r-134 you can buy a can with the regulator hose at any auto parts store for under $30 and as long as you know where the low pressure port is you can recharge it yourself. Just follow the instrucions on the can. Good luck, I hope this helps you.

Needs more freon not sure where to go

Freon is one probable cause, but there may be other causes, primarily with how clean your central A/C is. Check to make sure it is in decent condition, free of obstructions, as found in this article:

Also, if it is Freon, you can't just buy this on your own, unfortunately. It is highly regulated--sort of compared to the regulation of prescribed medication. A licensed technician must be hired to recharge an AC with Freon, as stores do not (or should not) sell this to those without AC certification. Good luck! Brad

My freezer is about 2 years old, but has been in storage for about a year and a half. The green light comes on, and the motor is running, but it will not get cold or even cool.

Hi ndntwiggy,
Ngafm at your service

Your said, your freezer is about 2 years old, but has been in storage for about a year and a half.
And the green light comes on, and the motor is running, but it will not get cold or even cool.

When a compressor is not run for more than a year, or 2 years there is a possibility that the seals dried out from non use and the freon leaked out.
Compressors have oil in them that when run even once a month will lubricate the seals and keep them soft and moist! .
Just like in the older cars from the 1960's or 70's the air conditioners had to be run once a month even in the winter to keep the seals lubricated or they lost the freon!
Then they started to make the defroster turn the compressor on as to lubricate the seals every time it rained or snowed and you needed the defrosters and this serviced the compressor as in todays cars.!
So you need service to fix it and more than likely it's out of freon refrigerant .
Let me know your end results.
Please give me a good rating for my accurate advice,
before you sign out of our site.
thank You ngafm
