Easiest way is to push against the vertical portion of the ice tray holder until it slides
off the buttons which are inserted into the top of the freezer compartment.

These models sometimes had issues with defrost timers (which I just replaced one today) and Defrost termination thermostats (which is clipped on to a tube behind freezer panel).
Make sure the freezer coils are not frozen up solid, if so use a hair dryer to defrost them
and make sure the vent is not iced over.
Model and serial are in the lower compartment on the left wall. In case you need to go to
the appliance parts store.
Hope this helps.

Replace fan motor

Hello Theresa;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

You did not provide a model number which is located on a label on the upper liner side wall in your fresh food section. So, I do not know what you have.

There are several reasons your fresh food section is not cooling:

1.) Cooling air vent from freezer to fresh food section. Find the air vent, put your hand in front of it, do you feel any air flow? This vent may be iced up or closed.
2.) Freezer cooling coils iced up - Look at the back wall of your freezer, is there frost or ice on the wall? You may have a bad defrost heater.
3.) Cooling coil fan - Open the freezer door do you hear the fan? Push in on the light switch, do you hear the fan?

Get back to me.

Freezer working fine, fridge not at all

Brand name and model would help but here is a guess. Most frost free refrigerators have the main cooling unit in the freezer area side. To get the fresh food side cold, there is a small fan in the freezer side that blows cold air to the fresh food side through a duct work or trap door. If that fan stops or fails for and reason, the first place you will notice the temp rise is in the fresh food section. See if you can hear the freezer fan running. You may need to push in the door switch for the freezer light to hear the fan because they sometimes run the fan wiring through the door switch. It may stop when door is opened.

Fridge temperature keeps falling

Hello Todd;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

You have not provided a model number so I can only speak in general terms. Your model number is in the fresh food section, on the top of the side wall.

You only have one cooling source. That source is your freezer which feeds your fresh food section.

1.) You have a vent from the freezer to the fresh food section. Put your hand in front of the vent. Do you feel any cooling air flow?
Depending on your model, you may have a bad air damper motor or temperature sensor which controls the damper motor to open and close. Or the vent may be blocked with ice.

2.) Check your freezer. Push in on your door light switch. Is your freezer fan running. You may have a bad fan motor, freezer thermostat, or be block up with ice. If that is the case, you probably have a bad defrost heater.

Get back to me with your model number and tell me what you have discovered, frost & ice in back of freezer? no air flow at damper? and anything else.

I have a Kenmore Elite model no is 59673502201 and it stop cooling in both the frig and freezer i replaced the condenser fan motor and it worked so i replaced the back and the unit will STILL NOT GET

Do you hear your evaporator fan running in the freezer drawer area?
If not, then that's the fan you should have replaced.

If your compressor is running and both the compressor fan and the evaporator fan are running, check the back wall of your freezer compartment. If it is frosted up, then you have a defrost problem.

If it's not frosting up, disassemble your freezer drawer section and remove the back panel in the freezer to look at your evaporator coil.

If it's partially frosted at the top, or bottom, but the rest of it is dry looking, then you've got a leaking sealed system.

If it's lightly frosted all over, then you have good coolant flow and you need to start looking at your thermostat and damper up in the fresh foods section.

Good luck!

Frig or freeser not cold

If it is your freezer, check to make sure that the air vents inside the freezer are not blocked by food. Putting too much food in an blocking the air vents will prevent the freezer from freezing. Air needs to circulate inside the freezer for it to work properly. This can also cause excess freezer ice collecting on freezer or in foods. Dust and lint will collect under and behind a frig. Pull the frig out from the wall, unplug it. Check for lint under and on the back of it. If it has accumulated some, vacuum it all off and plug it back in and wait a while to see if it gets cold. The fan pulls lint and dust under the frig and it stops the cooling system. If this doesn't work, it may need the freon (can't spell it correctly) stuff replaced. If these don't work, you need to call

The fridge side is not cooling but the freezer is working

Hello

The cold air is not getting from the freezer to the fresh food section. At least three reasons for this.
First,if you see a frost/ice buildup on the back wall of the freezer, there is a defrost issue. The defrost circuit has at least three components: defrost timer, defrost thermostat, and a heating element. If any one of these fail ice will build up on the evaporator coil in the freezer and air will not flow through the coils to the fresh food section. The fan in the freezer moves the air, so if the compressor is running and you don't hear that fan working when you open the freezer door, that is probably the problem.(Fan problems are not rare with Amana/Maytag refrigerators). The ducts through which the air moves usually have a damper door that adjusts as needed. The damper will be in the fresh food section at the top rear. There is also a hole near the bottom in the divider wall that can ice up. If that is plugged that circle of air can't happen. That usually plugs up because of a defrost problem, however even a leaking door gasket can cause this.

Hopefully with these starting points you can zero in on it.

Will freezer side work if frig side is out

The freezer will appear to still work for awhile after the fresh food side fail to maintain a cool temp, you will need to remove the back in the freezer section and see if the fan motor is turning, if the fan motor is not turning you willl need to replace the fan motor and this will correct the problem and allow cool air to circulate to the fresh food section and cool the fresh food side of the refrigerator

Freezer cold /refrigator warm . we have a side by side unit a couple of years old the freezer seems to work fine but the refrigator is warm .It don,t seem to make any funny noises and the back is clean

When the compressor is running, if the fan by the compressor and the fan inside the freezer are both running, and there is no frost on the back wall of the freezer (if there was frost would indicate a defrost issue) then check the air dampener. It is located at the very top left back side of the fresh food section. If it is not opening up, no air will flow from the freezer compartment (where all the cooling takes place) into the refrigerator section.
