First, check the PSU on another puter if available. If it works, the MB is the most likely culprit.
Check the capcitors (round tower looking things around the MB). If any are bulging or show brown "dirt", the MB needs replacing unless you know how to replace capacitors (Youtube has tutorials if your brave enough).
You may also have a damaged southbridge. Ebay may have replacement chips (replacing is similar to the capacitors).

To resolve Windows 7 Error Code 5, all you need to do is start the installer through a different installer. Either find an old Windows XP boot disk and then direct it over to the Windows 7 installation DVD and run Setup.exe. This should kick off the installer normally and allow you to install the operating system.

There could be several reasons for a restarting PC. Does the PC tend to restart a lot during stressful program execution such as an intense program like Photoshop CS2 or a game such as Crysis? It could be Video Driver related or heat related. Most PCs have a setting in BIOS that shuts a PC down to prevent damage when the heat gets too high.

If the restarting increases in frequency after the first restart, this also points more toward a heat problem as it is not taking as long to exceed the temperature threshold.

Check the Event Log by right-clicking My Computer and selecting Manage. Go to the Event Viewer at the top of the left menu and see if you notice anything of signifigance under the Application or System sub-options.

Information about your system board's BIOS setup can be located at the link below.

I think you need to go into the BIOS of your computer and enable the slot BEFORE the operating system boots.

I've been there. The connections you do not have hooked up, you can leave unconnected and the computer will work, although you probably will not have sound. All the connections you ask about are audio, so you might need to look around for another place to hook them up. On some computer motherboards those connections are not alongside the power connections, they may be close to where you plug in the speakers and mic. If all else fails, you can buy a USB audio in/out card for less than $3 online and use it.
