Sammi James PROBLEM
This may not be a Monitor problem.
So if you can try to get to test monitor on another computer.
Check carefully the data cable to ensure there are no bent pins.
If it turnout to be a monitor problem then at only 6 months -Acer should replace it.
If the monitor works - you should have the graphics card on the computer checked out.
If you feel you can do this - and you can- basic checks come back as another request.

Sammi James broke FIXYA - Samsung SP0411N HDD (3.5" IDE 40GB) PC board replacement
The firmware is upgradable on these devices but only within the same Rev Series. Your best bet is to source a board with the same Rev and similar production date.
Assuming the board is all that failed this should r troubles. Try http://stores.shop.ebay.ca/Effective-Electronics__W0QQ_armrsZ1
as they carry a wide variety of boards. if they don't have it try a general search on eBay. Don't use anything more than the Samsung model # for the search though as most sellers haven't a clue about Rev#'s. Once you find a few similar ones you can ask the sellers for specifics.
If you can't find the proper board or if you do and it fails to garner results let me know and include your location(Country, State and City) and I will refer you into a clean room facility.

How to recover space
Older motherboards without large disk support only handle a partition size that it can manage. Depending on the motherboard, it either partitioned the drive and used a 32gb portion, or it just disreguards the span after the 32gb point. If the former is the case, you may have to repartition the drive. There are some programs that allow you to do whis without reinstalling your OS, but they have a risk of corrupting data.
If you have the ability to backup all your computers information and reformat/reinstall your OS, things should be back in order.
Warning: Make sure you educate yourself on the process before you set out on this job. You will want to backup any information on the drive as well as make sure you have any drivers you may need before you begin. (if you are using windows XP, I suggest you read up on this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313348 )
If you want to attempt a repartition without reinstalling your operating system, you may want to try Partition Magic, Drive Image, Norton Ghost, or Partition Logic. (Some are free, some are not. A quick search will help you find their websites for more info.)
