Kenmore Dishwashers - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support

Push the heated/dry button on the dishwasher for 4 seconds and that will unlock the dishwasher. This is just a safety feature that allows you to lock the dishwasher to stop kids from pushing buttons.
If that doesn’t’ work they will send out a tech to fix it.

soap dispensers open electrically, ether with a motor or solenoid. Ether that device is bad or a wiring problem or the control unit.

it would be improbable that you put too tall an item on the top rack every time you wash, but it is also impossible to check without a see thru tub. Just make sure there are no tall items and maybe lower the top rack.
Some dishwashers have the top arm on the bottom of the rack and use a connection in the back when the rack is pushed in. If yours does make sure it isn't deformed and not making properly.

a number of possible issues.
1. door sensor not allowing it to start
2. it is starting but there is no water flowing == water supply or vavle
3. corroded connections = water vavle or other places
4. control unit.

Hello Neil,

You may just need to reset the washer having cleared the error code. This can be done by holding the PROG button for about 3-5 seconds.

The snowflake is the rinse aid warning light and the tipping cup with the S is the low salt warning light. These shouldn't be related to the problem and should disappear when they are refilled.

If holding the PROG button doesn't reset the washer, you need to check whether any water has leaked under the washing compartment. Either remove the kick-plate under the door and check for water visually or pull the washer out from under the counter and tilt it backwards about 45 degrees. The washer is heavy and the bottom can slide out when you do this, so get someone to help you if possible. It's also a good idea to put some old towels on the floor under the back of the washer to catch any water that drains out.

Please try this then let me know if you need further assistance. You didn't specify a model number, but from the description, I'm assuming this is the KDW12ST3A? You can reply to me by clicking on "Add a Comment" below your question.

Regards,
BElectric

I don't know that I would call it "normal", but it's certainly not surprising. The typical life span of any major appliance is probably in the neighborhood of 12 to 20 years, and electronic components are often the first to fail. Watch for a sale on a new dishwasher (especially a model that may be a year or two old) and dig out your wallet.

All dishwashers have a switch of some kind to stop them running with the door open, this is most likely the fault .

The buttons must be pressed in the following order: "Heated Dry," "Normal Wash," "Heated Dry" and "Normal Wash." After pressing the buttons, your Kenmore dishwasher will begin a short, 12 minute test cycle and reset the control panel. https://removeandreplace.com/2015/10/26/kenmore-dishwasher-error-fault-codes-led-display-blinking

Keep running cycles without detergent until it’s clear, then use correct type and amount of dishwashing liquid.
