you need to hold the seperator to keep the whole thing from spinning, then get a pair of pliers and turn the nut counter clockwise.

No there is no mechanism to make it agitate, it is just a basin of water.

Apparently... yes, but suggest you replace the brush roller assembly. If you've used it long enough that the bearings have seized or shot, then likely the bristles are worn well beyond useful.
