hi

these problem are frequent in connection.check that you have connected properly. sometimes these problem arises due to loose contact of the drive cable or that pin.if you have same problem again means you can check it in another system.

The clicking sound you here is a sign the hard drive has physically crashed. If there is important data, consult a data recovery firm to try and retrieve what files they can- if there is modestly important data on the drive, try placing the drive in a freezer drive and place the bagged drive in the freezer for 48 hours. Once that is done, connect the drive- if it is recognized- BACK UP EVERYTHING YOU CAN. You will have only a limited time before the drive heats back up and likely recrashes the heads into the drive

What HDD is in this external enclosure. If it's a WD Cavair green, there are known issues associated with these drives. I have sent two back in as many weeks. Try the drive on different computers. If the result is "no work" then I would advise you to return it for testing. These things are "auto detect" and Plug and Play and should work straight off.

If you can feel it spinning up that does mean the drive motor is getting power, drives a generally quite resilient and will usually survive a short fall. However the enclosures are not so tough in a lot of cases.

Your best bet is to take the whole thing to your local computer store and ask them to move the drive into another enclosure to test it. Most of the time, with these symptoms it will work fine in the new enclosure. If it doesn't work in a new enclosure, you will likely need the help of a pro.

Try the above suggestion and if it doesn't work let me know by commenting back here. Include your country in the comments and I will recommend a suitable firm if you require assistance recovering data off a damaged drive.

Try googling and downloading this Excel file. It lists battery replacements for your unit. QPA_Catalog_Jul05.xls It'll be the one with the heading of [XLS] qpaprods. Don't forget you'll need MS Excel to read it. I can't do it for you this laptop doesn't have Excel and being confined to bed I can't get downstairs to use the main computer.
