ignition lock cylinder replacement

The key doesn't turn at all. Not even one click!!! the tumblers are completely jammed. I also just bought the Bently service manual but they don't offer a solution to my problem. I have been searching the web for days and at this stage I know I have only one of two solutions: to drill a small hole where the entry for the pin should be if the key would've turned, then use a pin to remove it; or drill straight through the center of cylinder to destroy the lock tumblers and then turn it to line up with the pin hole, and use the classic method to remove it. Before I attemp either, I need to know if anyone tried them and which one will work better or work at all? I already ordered a new cylinder from dealer so the problem is in removing the old one. Help please.

Where is the location of starter motor '95 BMW 318i

I need to change the starter motor.Where do I look in the engine compartment?

It will be close to the bottom of the engine block where the transmission meets the engine. Disconnect battery before touching the wires and note where wich wire went. Be sure you know the code for your passive theft protection for your radio if it has that feature because it will probably need to be reentered after reconnecting the battery.

Reattaching a rearview mirror on a BMW

I have tried everything to reattch my rearview mirror to my BMW. I used the mirror glue from the car parts store, super glue, apoxy, you name it and the mirror falls off every time. Is there a special glue to use for a BMW, or what it the trick? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Small little trick, Clean everything well and wipe it with acetone.  Use your hot glue gun to glue it back on.

Works actually pretty well.
I hope this helps

94 bmw 318iC Heater not working

Just today the heater stopped working on my car. The blower is working, just not getting hot air. This is my first BMW, don't know where to begin troubleshooting.

1st thing to check is the coolant level. Low coolant level results in no, or little heat (not enough coolant to circulate thru the heater core). What does your engine temp gauge indicate? (or is it just a warning light?) If the car is running at what appears to be lower than normal temp., u may have a thermostat that's stuck open. This would cause the engine to not reach operating temp, and u would not have heat. Check the above 2 items 1st, then let me know what u found. If that doesn't fix it, we will continue, let's do the easy and not too expensive stuff 1st!

BMW 318i M42 Engine tapping and other noise. Have video

We just replaced the hydraulic lifters and timing chain tensioner to fix this problem. However, it didnt make a difference.
1993 M42 153,000 miles. Car sat for two years with out being started. I have changed the oil 3 times in 5'000 miles that I have driven it. The noise is getting worse the more I drive it. The engine does fine when cold, but noisy after it is ran for a few minutes, especially, after driving over 3,000 rpms(highway) for any period of time.

Listen to the video, engine cold and engine hot.

could be the oil pump. Had the same problem w/ E 30. Installed a pressure gauge and check performance at different speeds. Pressure was consistently low against specs. Change the pump . . problem gone.

I don't have access to the symbols, but you, as a BMW owner can log on to this site, and have access to the original manual for your BMW with diagrams of all the symbols and what they mean. Good luck, hope this helps. Curt
