If it was working before , drop the tank again low enough to check your connections, if ok, remove the assembly out of the tank and inspect, with the unit out, hook the wiring back up, turn the key on and manually swing the float and have someone watch the gauge.

there are plastic snap-on covers that can be pried out of the space they are in and usually a screw or bolt is under this.. most are in a trim area..or look under the armrest for a hole.. you will find a fastener at the other end of that hole..

did anyone pull out the spark plugs and turn the engine over to get the water out of the cylinders? If water went up to the head light , chances are it got sucked into the air cleaner then deposited into the cylinders water doesnt compress & Ive seen it blow a hole the size of my fist through a cylinder wall you may have cracked the block Id recommend a compression test before you spend any more money as a motor warms up the crack my seal a bit especially if there is aluminum involved

if its a 2.2ltr its a timeing chain and the r known for failing they have a cheap plastic slide that wears out prematurely causing the chain to jump or sometimes break. ive fixed a lot of them so i dont think its an interferince fit engine if its v6 4.3ltr u hardly ever have a problem with the timeing chain. its usually the gear at the bottom of the distributer wears out

There is a sensor that fits over the linkage that may be your problem. I experienced pretty much the same thing. Costs about $70.00 to replace. I have a new one and would give it to you if I could get it to you!

all electrical now should just have a sensor on output of trans or ur cluster bad, may also be broken wire

this could be a problem with engine managment you can get it pluged in to a diagnostic tool and they will give a fault code these can be purchesed from well known aution sites for 30 pounds

If the warning light does not come on but the engine will run, the bulb may be blown or removed.
