It could be the starter, test the small wire going to the starter, it should have power when turning the key to start/crank. If it does, and the starter will not crank the engine, whack it with a hammer, if it then starts, replace the starter. If there is no power to the starter, then it could be the ignition switch, or the neutral switch, or a fuse/link blown.

They come with a 3 or 4 cyl engine, but either way it would not take much to make it run rough.
Usually a miss-fire under load is ignition related.
Have you checked or replaced the plugs, cap, rotor, and wires ?
If not I would start with an inspection of that first.

It doesn't matter where the compressor is.

When you get the install kit it will have directions to follow. There are two ports on the ac lines. One is larger than the other to help prevent you from connecting to the wrong side of the system. The ports are covered by black caps.

there should be an adjustment bolt somewhere on the bracket. turn it one way it pulls the AC pulley towards the other pulley put the belt on then turn the adjustment bolt the opposite way and it will push it away and tighten the belt. you only want about an 1/8 inch play in the belt so the tighter the better
