The pistons do not compress like the fronts, they need to be turned to the right as you are pushing them in, like you are screwing them in.

Changing rear brakes on 2000 lincoln LS


You will need a special tool for the back brakes,Autozone will loan it to you for 60 bucks,you will get it back when you return,I used it.I replaced brake pads front and back and both back rotors.The driver side rear had metal on metal,all disc brakes,brake pads on that rear side were completely worn down to metal,the driver side was like new,kept wondering why,replaced both rear rotors,put back together,then then I noticed where brake line hose went into brake caliber was leaking,so that caused the side with new like brake pads not to be gripping disc putting all brake pressure of that one side,so the copper fitting their was bad,put new one on and leak stopped.

Change brake pads


For starters the front and rear us disk pads and it is not hard to do. On the front jack up the front and us jack stand for safety. After you take of the wheel remove the two bolts at the back of the brake caliper remove the caliper and then the old pads us a C- clamp with one of the old pads installed in the caliper then just us the c-clamp to push the cylinder all the way in until it will go no further install new pads put back on. But before you do the next side hit the brake to push the cylinder back out. Go to other side do the same thing. On a side not you only need to replace the rear brakes every other time you do the front. The front wear twice as fast as they do most of the stopping.

What's your problem? passenger rear brake pads are burning


The caliper is not returning or releasing all the way, reason for burning. Clean and lubricate caliper. Light staying on, air in the brake system. It needs to be thourouly bled

I put new brakes in my saturn. i put new front calipers,rotors and pads and power bleed front only. i also put new brake pads in rear but did not replace drums.after all that i can't get a hard brake...


try adjusting the rear brake shoes but.....spin the rear wheels first is u get the feeling of the shoes grabbing then releasing ( the tire gets loose then tight as u rotate it) u will need to have the drums cut on a brake lathe or replaced...when u have this done , then adjust the rear shoes until u get a slight drag on the rear wheels..go pump the brake pedal to seat the shoes if the wheel spins free adjust the shoes more an repeat until they have a slight drag after pumping the brake pedal

Recently had front & rear brakes replaced along with a new rear axle. Vehicle has 114,000 miles. The brakes shudder slightly with normal braking + some quivering of the steering wheel. With hard...


Its a good idea to turn your rotors if your putting on new pads so that you get a good seat.  The steering wheel vibration may be your new pads wearing in and trying to find a good seat.  Give it another 500 miles for break in period and if you still get the problem, then replace the pads with better ones and check to see if your rotors are not warped.  Your pads will never seat correctly if your rotors are warped and make sure you use plenty of that shim goop they give you in the package before putting on the pads.

Brake shoe wear


Just a hair before the rivets. It is very hard to give you a depth chart since you would have had to have measured the pads before they were put on. Usually you change the rear pads after every two front pad changes. Remember you only use about 15 to 20% of your rear brakes so they take alot longer to go out on you

Toyota Camry 2005-Brake pads noise problem


The rear brakes should last from 30000 to 60000 miles or 50000 to 100000 kms. So something is wearing out your brakes too fast. Are you doing the work or some shop. I also assume you have discs and not drums since you mention pads and calipers. I am not certain but usually you need a tool to turn the pistion in when putting in new pads. I would make sure the pads are releasing properly by raising rear of car, stepping on brakes a few times (with engine off and try see if wheels are free by spinning by hand, also try to use handbrake a few times and release it and see if wheels spin freely. Maybe rears always applied. Notice burning smell, are discs glazed from heat? Are you using really cheap pads. Also check the proportioning valve which will decrease pressure to rear brakes during hard braking. Do you notice rear wheels squeling during hard braking. Do you have antilock brake system? Also are you using good quality pads and rotors.

Replaced brake pads, extreme squeal resulted


Pads will reproduce sound just like a needle on a phonograph. Hard linings will accentuate this. Have the rotors re-surfaced and finished with a non-directional pattern(I make a quick pass with a D/A sander over surfaces while still on the lathe) Generally this will help.
