Please post the make and year of your van and someone can help you a little more.
No spark indicates anything from a faulty ignition switch to a defective coil.

What makes a 1988 F150 trucks ingnition stay engaged

Most likely the ignition switch or the rod in the steering column is sticking and keeping the switch engaged, possibly the ignition lock cylinder is sticky too. Easy to get lock cylinder out with a small punch that depresses a pin when the lock cylinder is in the run position, look under the steering column by the switch for a hole to poke the punch into and then pull out the lock cylinder.

There is no spark while cranking engine until you let go of the key at which point it fires one cylinder but does not run f-600 ford 370-4v year 1979

Hello, I would test the Ignition switch. There are contact points inside the switch and actually both the Run and Start positions on the switch put power to the coil.

If you disconnect the power wire at the coil (ignition post) you can test the wire from the Keyswitch.
Then unplug the Tickler wire on the starter Relay and the starter will not turn while you test the Keyswitch.

Hook up a testlight or voltmeter, get in the cab and turn the Keyswitch to Run and I'd bet the ignition wire is dead. If there is steady power at the ignition wire, either your coil or Module is bad.

When you turn the Key to Start, it should have power at the Ignition wire and I also bet it is dead until you get that bounce of power when you release the Key.

I have a 92 Honda accord that has been sitting idle for a long time and now wont start. Ignition lights are on and engine turns over but there is no spark from the coil to the distributor. I changed the...

Do not hotwire the "-" terminal on the coil. The ignition system modulates the "-" signal to release the sparks. Check the ignition fuse under the dashboard. If good, use a test light at the coil to check for voltage at the coil. If you don't have a test light, you can buy one at a parts store for a few dollars. Connect the test light clamp to engine ground and touch the point to the "+" terminal of the coil. If no voltage, suspect the ignition switch is bad. If there is voltage at the coil, suspect the ignition module is bad. If you have more questions, please let us know.

How do you replace the spark plugs on a 1998 2.7 Intrepid?

Hi,
REMOVAL
Always remove the ignition coil assembly by grasping at the spark plug boot, turning the assembly 1/2 turn and pulling straight back in a steady motion.
  • Prior to removing the spark plug, spray compressed air around the coil area and spark plug.
  • Remove electrical connector from ignition coil.
On 3.5L engines, it is necessary to loosen the screws by alternating back and forth. Do not lose the spacers under the coil when loosening the screws.
  • Remove 2 fasteners from ignition coil.
  • Remove ignition coil assembly.
  • Remove the spark plug using a quality socket with a rubber or foam insert.
  • Inspect the spark plug condition.
INSTALLATION
Always remove the ignition coil assembly by grasping at the spark plug boot, turning the assembly 1/2 turn and pulling straight back in a steady motion.
  • To avoid cross threading, start the spark plug into the cylinder head by hand.
  • 3.5L engines tighten spark plugs to 28 N·m (20 ft. lbs.) torque, 2.7L engine tighten spark plugs to 17.6 N·m (13 ft. lbs.).
  • Install ignition coil assembly onto spark plug.
  • Install coil screws and tighten: 2.7L engine to 6.2 N·m (55 in. lbs.), 3.5L engines to 6.7 N·m (60 in. lbs.).
  • Connect the electrical connector.

Car does not seem to have spark.where is ignition coil car

There's a coil pack that usually sits right on top of the engine. Follow the spark plug wires. Usually the coil pack won't fail completely you might lose 2 cylinders but not all 6. Are you getting a check engine light? It could be the cam or crankshaft sensor, they send signals to the coil pack via the power train control modual.

Ignition will not turn off the van, key out of van, van still on

it sounds like the small arm inside the steering colunm has broken. on my windstar it was actually two pieces. if you do not have tilt steering the job to replace it isn't too bad tho you have to pull the steering wheel and remove the lock cylinder. to test if this is correct you would need to pull the ignition switch... it's under the steering column. there is a pin on it that fits into the arms that come down from the ignition switch. remove the ignition switch and turn the key while looking up into the hole where the small arm is. if it doesn't move it is broken.

for the immediate problem just either pull the fuse for ignition or remove the breather snorkel that attaches to the throttle body and block it off with your hand.
