Question about 2001 Buick Century
What is the best wy to replace the bulg for the odometer/gear selector light?
I had this same problem and I removed the long plastic dash piece that goes from door to door (after removing other pieces which hold that one in place) and then tilt the steering wheel to the lowest position. turn the key and put the car in gear 1 then shut the car off -this enables you to remove the instrument cluster, which is held in by 4 screws. Unclip the back of the instrument cluster and remove the circuit board. On the board to the right of the speedometer are 4 resistors which look like tiny black cylinders -these need to be replaced (if they haven't already fallen off the circuit board). I was missing two and I just touched the other two with my finger and they fell off. I soldered onto the board 150 ohm, 1/8 watt resistors ($1.99 for a packof 5 at Radio Shack). This entire process took me about 30 minutes. I put everything back together in the reverse order I took it apart and my instrument cluster, odometer and gear-shift indicator works fine.

There is no bulb for the odometer / gear light. I have the same problem and can't see my mileage and gears on my 2001 Buick Century. I took my cluster panel out to try to replace the bulb but did not find one. The cluster panel has to be replaced or you have to get it repaired from a professional. I found some used ones on ebay for a decent price.

It is not hard to do guys. I can't be exact model specific but the instrument clust comes straight out of the front of the dash. you may have to remove some trim to get it out, look closely at the trim if you need to remove it, most all trim will have hidden screws and clips that hold them on. The cluster will have screws holding it in place also you with have to detach the wires and speedocable if it use one, most are electronic now. The bulbs just twist to remove, and most still use the small peanut pulbs. I hope this has helped. If you want specifics. The problem on these is with the circuit board, one of the circuits gets too hot over time and certain components will fail and even fall completely off the board never to be seen again! But, the good news is it can be fixed.

The coolant level sensor is located on the radiator. If you are looking at the engine from the front of the car it will be on the left side. There will some kind of clip holding it in the radiator. Removed the clip and pull the sensor out. You will lose coolant so try to swap it out quick or drain some of the coolant out. Once new sensor is installed, install clip to keep the sensor in place and reconnect the wires to the sensor. Crank the engine and make sure the coolant level is full. This should correct your problem.

Sadly no, there is no fuse or bulb to replace. You either have to send the instrument cluster out for repair or replace it with a new unit from the dealer. You could also obtain a serviceable one from a salvage yard. Most shops should be able to replace the instrument cluster or advise who can repair it.

this is a common problem and the dash cluster must be removed and sent out for repair, cost is about $175 to replace the LED (Light emitting diode) display that has burned out, this is a faxtory defect as far as this expert is concerned, it is not a fuse problem.
