How to reset the airbag light on chevy impala 2009

Service airbag light is on. Took to the dealership and they said it was dirty connection. They cleaned it and charged me almost $100. Three days later the light came on again. Positive battery cable is corroded and they said battery & cable need to be replaced to the tune of $500. Service airbag light could be because of the battery power. Need help how to repair. Going to clean positive cable and connections to battery myself.

We had the same problem we reported repeatedly, while car was under warrenty, and they told us ours was dirty to. Now the car is out of waranty and it turns out aparently it was a bad connector all along, and will cost $900.00 to repair now.

Your not going to be able to diagnose the SRS (Air Bag)
System, without factory trouble charts to follow, way too
many codes & procedures to follow.

A battery is about $110.00 & the cables are only3 years
old,so they should be able to be cleaned

I would only guess, that they didn't do anything about
your intitial complaint on the Service Airbag light, not
for $100.00

I would like to see that connector & clean myself,
& I wouldn't see where $900 even would come in to play

Be careful & be shown what is required to resolve
    that issue.
A dealer is not a place I recommend to anyone, those
that work for dealers obviously only suggest dealers

the best thing to get is the Haynes manual for your car at advanced auto or autozone or somewhere like that and the book will tell you how to take everything apart and put it back. i think the manual is about $16.00

Working on the SRS can be very hazardous. For this reason I suggest you have this done by a professional. I would for sure get a second opinion on this.

SOURCE: 1998 Monte Carlo alternater not charging

Ok, i understand that you have replaced the alternator, but there seems to be a non charge state in this case. i recommend checking the charging system. use the procedure below to isolate this issue.

Wear protective eye wear and clothing and remove all jewelry when checking your battery and charging system. Jewelry is a good conductor of electricity and is not recommended. Most batteries wear out every 3 to 5 years and need to be replaced. Always replace your battery with an equal replacement battery to assure proper operation. Automotive batteries have a +positive terminal (red), - negative terminal (black). The battery in this illustration has a protective cover over the positive terminal to prevent short circuit in case of an accident. Electricity is stored in the battery and then supplied to the vehicle when the engine is not running. While the engine is running the vehicles alternator charges the battery for future use. (Note: never disconnect the battery while the engine is running. If the battery cable is disconnected from the battery a spark can be generated which can cause the battery to explode or a major electrical malfunction to occur.)

To check a battery surface voltage, remove the positive terminal protective cover. Connect the +positive side meter lead (red) to the positive side battery terminal. Connect the - negative (black) side meter lead to the negative battery terminal. With the vehicle not running and the car sitting over night the battery voltage should be between 12.5 and 12.8 volts.(You will need to use a voltmeter for this testing procedure)

The alternator is rotated by a drive belt driven by the vehicles engine while it is running. Electrical voltage and amperage are generated to recharge the battery and supply voltage to the electrical system of the car. The alternator is held in place with mounting bolts. There is a main electrical wire on the rear of the alternator that supplies voltage to a main voltage junction box. If your alternator is not charging properly, your battery will slowly drain down from operating all the electrical systems in your car and stop the car from running.(most non charge states will be the cause of a loose belt or a low tension rate, due to a mis-adjusted alternator. make sure you have enough tension in the belt for full rotation of the alt pulley)

Next, you will need to check the alternators output with the Amp meter.

Testing the amperage output of the alternator is good for measuring the amount (not the level) of voltage the alternator can produce. This test can be tricky because if the alternator is weak it can still show it as producing amperage. Which is good, but if the voltage is low, it will still allow the battery to go dead. To check the amperage output of an alternator an amp meter is needed. Once the meter is connected start the engine. Next turn on all electrical accessories and raise the engine idle to about 1200 RPM. The alternator should output the max amperage it was designed to produce. Example: a 90 amp alternator should output about 88 amps. Note: An alternator cannot sustain maximum output for long periods of time. If the alternator is forced to operate at maximum output it will overheat and fail. An alternator is designed to operate at max amperage output only for a reasonable amount of time.

((Connect the voltage meter lead the same way you would in a battery static voltage check, Start engine (do not drive) at engine idle the voltage should be between 13.6 to 14.3 volts. If not the alternator may need replacing.)))

I have a 2007 GMC Envoy, the engine light has been on for a while now, took it to the dealer and a code P0506, they reset the light, took my $100 and said nothing is wrong, three days later, the engine...

Hi there, P0506 IS usally a dirty throttle body. In order to clean properly, with the battery disconnected, they need to be taken off and cleaned front and back til' they are shiny. Sticking a rag soaked with solvent in there while it's still attached isn't going to cut it, i've seen many mechanics do it this way. When they do this, they very often DO NOT unhook the battery which you NEED to do for about an hour while cleaning.. Otherwise, the computer won't relearn the clean throttle body, and you'll have your light on again. It's very easy and cheap to do it yourself. Let me know if you'd like instructions on how to do it.

The service air bag is on. What does this mean?

I had the same problem years ago with my Dodge Dynasty. The airbag light came on for no apparent reason. I took it to the dealer and they said they fixed it. Two days later the light came back on again so I went back to the dealer and they told me there was nothing wrong with the airbag and didn't know why the light was on. A few years later I gave the car to my grandson and he took it out to the desert and drove it over a huge dirt hill (not very smart) and when the car came down over the hill the airbag came out uninflated. I drove around all that time with a useless airbag based on what the dealer told me. I would suggest taking it back to the repair shop and let them check it out. If they can't find out what is wrong I would definitely get a new airbag. I know they can be expensive but your life is worth a lot more.
Good luck.

P0340 Problem Code for 03 Jeep Liberty

code p0340 refers to cam shaft position sensora bank 1-circuit malfunction===causes --wiring Cam sensor---ECM. The only connection is the ECM to both units so they may have unpluged the ECM to service the air bag problem. IT could be as simple as using a code reader to reset the CPU. I may also be a coincedence and there may be a fault in the cam position sensor.. I would discuss the matter with the dealer service department to determine what is what.

There are no switches they can hit to make your airbag light go on. It just sounds like a horrible coencidence. Call VW Customer service number in your owners manual, they may do the diagnostic for free then.

"SRS-AIRBAG SERVICE" fault message

Here's a quick check list for most common cost of SRS / Air bag problem.

Dirty contacts on driver and passenger seat belt buckles

Dirty contacts on seat belt connectors (under seats)

Dirty contacts on driver and passenger sides weight sensors (under seat)

Seat covers

Weight on passenger seat
(Example: grocery package trigger SRS / Air Bag light on the way home.)

I recommend you to pass an vacuum over the contacts and use CRC electronic parts cleaner to rule out connectivity problem.

I DO NOT recommend disconnecting the negative battery connector to clean the code(s).

Without the code(s) the dealer will takes "BILLABLE" time to reproduce the problem.

What the srs light means

Your SRS light is related to your "airbag system". You need to have it repaired because you have no airbags while that light is on.

(Battery No Charge Message)

Yep.... the tired old battery may have cooked the alternator. If your lucky , maybe it is just the belt. Could be loose wire , or dirty connection on back of alternator too.
Alternator should not be THAT expensive , and an 85 caddy should be easy to get at alternator.
If a mechanic has quoted you lots of $$$ , check with another mechanic. Stay away from chevy dealership , or any dealership for that matter. They waaaayyyy overcharge. If their book says it is a 2 hour job , thats what you pay for , even if it only took them 20 min.
