Question about 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring Hatchback
If there's anything on the passenger seat, from a few letters to an actual passenger, the airbag light comes on and makes a loud, annoying ding every few minutes. Can I turn that darn ding off?
HI I may have found y the airbag light goes off and on on pt cruisers. there is a pair of wires that connect to the seat air bag pod, the wires run down the seat and to a connector in th floor. after long in vestigation i found that even thou the wires have a conduit protecting them the wires run under the foam pad and over a steel bar, which caused 1 wire to be cut inside yet there was no tell tale sign from out side the sleeve, it was only when I disconected the battery and then the connector from the airbag and the floor connector removed it and run a meter on the two I found it. when i "pulled" the leads the outer sleeve stretched exposing the fault, the wire had a very clean break in it which was odd but the fault. note that only one wire powers the air bag, the other is a feed to the PCM, hence they are connected at the ends hence not easy to trace and with saftey in mind you must not put meters on the wires while connected to any part of the airbag

This is could be the same issue I have with the belt buckle sensor being loose and not receiving enough pressure (passenger side). Depending on how badly it's malfunctioning, the airbag light and chime may go on only when it's buckled, or go on and off whether buckled or not.
The dealership told my the *good* news that I had to pay for it myself ($60 for the diagnostic $200+ for the new sensor), since the nice loophole in the warranty makes sure it doesn't get covered.
My wife discovered if she applies pressure bye 'bending' the buckle inward towards her, it turns off permanently.
Since I can't justify tossing out $260 right now for a shoddy job the manufacturer should have covered, I rammed a large paperclip in instead until I figure out the safe way to get around this. Had to fiddle with it for a bit, but it stays of now.

i have also had this problem with my 2007 pt cruiser. Whenever me my boyfriend, sister or anyone under the weight of 150 lbs is sitting in the passenger seat the airbag chime goes off with every single minute. But when my mother in law or her mother is a passenger it never goes off im not even sure she is over the weight of 150 lbs. These tips are really helpful thought thanks.=]

The airbag sensor stays on.
I was told that you put a resister in line with the light? or sensor? and this will cause the light to go out.
Is this correct?

Check in your owners manual. Procedure for shutting the bell off is in there. Don't have my manual closeby so I can't look at it.

I just fixed the problem on my cruser i have a 2006 PT Cruser manual transmission . i was researching on a program called mitchell ondemand {program for micanics} if you go into the fuse box under your hood seach out number 27 it should be 2 10amp fuses take them out and look at the prongs if there is some build up on them replace the fuse or use sand paper to remove the build-up. when i did this it solved the problem with my airbag light. on my vehicle the seatbelt light and alarm was going off as well i fixed this problem by removing the center console and unhooking the cables that went to the airbag modual... dont worry the airbag wont deploy, i then cleaned the connections with electraclean its a fast evaperating spray for electrical connections. reconnect and both problems should be solved. i am not a mecanic yet i am in school getting certified. i hope this infor helps i have been putting up with this problem for about a year

The airbag light on the dash of my 07 PT Cruiser Touring would come on with a chime over and over again. It wouldn't do this every time I drove it, though, and it didn't seem to matter if anyone was in the passenger seat or not. Fortunately, I brought it to a repair shop and they were able to fix it. When they told me the solution was to replace the "Passenger Seatbelt Clip Assembly", I had no expectation that it would work at all; why would the airbag light be on if it was a seatbelt issue? But I guess it was, because now the airbag light is always off and there's no annoying chime. If you have this problem, try looking into the passenger seatbelt clip assembly. I hope that helps!

You could also look at the seat belt position sensor, (thats located on the bottom of the seat) this sensor works with the seat belt and the air bag indicator on the dash board and center panel. really cheap part front the dealer part # 5084008AA.
I noticed the airbag warning light was coming on every time I was seating on the drivers seat. LOL it has to do with loose connection under there or sensor. I will fix ti tomorrow.

I have the same problem with my PT Cruiser and I looked in the owners manual and did not see where to turn off the light and or chime. I am gonna take the car to get it fixed just cant do it right now, but would like to stop the chime ever few seconds until I can get it fixed.
I have a 2007 PT cruiser too and it does the same thing. I will take it in to get fixed when I get a chance.
We have gone to the dealer now TWICE already regarding the front passenger airbag sensor chime and light going off constantly on our '07 convertable. The dealer's service department refuses to place an actual human being in the seat to "test and recalibrate" the sensor, insisting this procedure must be done with a set of weights. The service personnel are beginning to give us grinning, condescending greetings as if they're Cheshire cats when we enter the service department, seeming as if we're using up our time to drive the 15 miles there and giving up use of our car for 5 hours simply to make-up this story for our own damned entertainment. On a recent simple weekend roundtrip (following these "repairs") of only 150 miles we counted the sensor light and chime going off 214 times. That's 214 times. It is literally driving us crazy in this "pleasure" car. Damn you and screw you, Chrysler. I'm about ready to go out and buy a PT Camry.
i have the same problem, i dont know why, even somebody is seat beside the driver this airbag light still showing air bag off. is it because airbag is damaged or why is this??? i just bought my pt and im driving crazy with this. also please i have to drivers manual if somebody can get it for me it would be really nice. my Pt is 2007 touring edition.
my email. marukita28@hotmail.com
Our 2007 Touring Edition does the same thing. It seems like any movement on the seat, (passenger leaning or adjusting how they are setting) sets it off. Now it's gone off with nobody in the seat and the light has stayed on.
I'd call this a safety issue and will try to find the correct Federal agency to send the complaint to. Of course now the Feds own/control Chrysler, so what's the chances.
There may be some reasons of coming the airbag light on your PT Cruiser. Some connectors could be loose under seats or sensor of steering wheel could fail. However it is really rear. Your problem is probably caused by common problem in PT Cruisers - by broken wire on driver's seat. Before you start doing anything disconnect a car battery. After 15 minutes remove a plastic panel from the seat (the one you can see when you open your door). Than you will see a wire in plastic cover. It connects an airbag in your seat and yellow connector under the seat. The wire breaks near to the second plastic T-shaped part (looking from the top of the seat backrest). It is located where is a pooling line and rising seat connector wire - somewhere in the center of lenght of the seat. Put the seat backrest to the vertical position, push up the black plastic cube of the line to remove it and have some room to repair the wire, cut a cloth tape. You should have ***** white and red wires. Inspect the wire about 1,5 inch from the center of the place where was the center of the T-shaped plastic keeper. The wire outside will be looking as new, but coper lines inside used to be broken. Strech slightly one by one of the 2 wires. When you find the break just cut the plastic cover in that place, remove 0,25 inch of the cover from each of cut end of wire and twist the ends or put extra 2 inch insert of the same wire. Wrap the coper wires in insulating tape neatly and tape all of the wires together with the T-shaped plastic keeper. Put on place the line udjusting a backrest of the seat, the keeper and plastic cover of the seat. Connect a battery and check it. If you are not sure where is the place whre the wire could be broken, it is exactly 30 centimetres from the connector of the airbag. TomasS
