I had the same problem. My temp light came on on my dash. I hooked up to a computer and it showed that that temp of the car was 248 degrees when the engine is really 165 degrees. It was the computer sensor. The sensor is under the thermostat and was about 15 dollars. It took about 30 mins to change.

2000 Town Car - 3 codes (P0307 - I believe misfire on #7) but P0430 & P0442 I don't know

P0430 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2) Indicates Bank 2 catalyst system efficiency is below the acceptable threshold.
  • Use of leaded fuel
  • Damaged HO2S
  • Malfunctioning ECT
  • High fuel pressure
  • Damaged exhaust manifold
  • Damaged catalytic converter
  • Oil contamination
  • Cylinder misfiring
  • Downstream HO2S wires improperly connected
  • Damaged exhaust system pipe
  • Damaged muffler/tailpipe assembly
  • Retarded spark timing
Compare HO2S upstream & downstream switch rate. Under normal closed loop fuel conditions, high efficiency catalysts have oxygen storage which makes the switching frequency of the downstream HO2S quite slow compared to the upstream HO2S. As catalyst efficiency deteriorates, its ability to store oxygen declines and the downstream HO2S signal begins to switch more rapidly approaching the switching rate of the upstream HO2S. Once beyond an acceptable limit the DTC is set. Catalytic converter bad !

P0442 - EVAP Control System Leak Detected (Small Leak) The PCM monitors the complete EVAP control system for presence of a small fuel vapor leak. The system failure occurs when a fuel vapor leak from an opening as small as 1.016 mm (0.04 inch) is detected by the EVAP running loss monitor test.
  • After-market EVAP hardware (such as fuel filler cap) non-conforming to required specifications
  • Small holes or cuts in fuel vapor hoses/tubes
  • Canister vent solenoid stays partially open on closed command
  • Damaged, cross-threaded or loosely installed fuel filler cap
  • Loose fuel vapor hose/tube connections to EVAP system components
  • EVAP system component seals leaking (EVAP canister purge valve, fuel tank pressure sensor, canister vent solenoid, fuel vapor control valve tube assembly or fuel vapor vent valve assembly)

2009 Hyundai Sonata code p0449 comes on .

There never has been a repair cost up front-- until you
find a problem

You pay for diagnostic time-- then authorize the cost
of the repairs later

PO449--- Evap Vent Valve Solenoid

Find the valve & replace yourself

There are 8 Emission Monitors that have to run clear-- BEFORE--
you go to inspection, or you know you will fail

If the Evap System is good & only that monitor did not run, they
check your gas cap. In your case, you have a failed part or wiring
issue-- any repair shop can do

I would replace the solenoid yourself

The Evap Monitor is the only monitor to only run every
few days & no one but the engineers that design the vehicle,
knows when,some run at 2:00 am when your sleeping

So drive a few days or have a look with professional scan
tool under I/M on the data-- before going back to inspection

I replaced evap vent solenoid & dtc came back

Here is the definition of the code and possible causes.

P0449 PONTIAC Description The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the Evaporative Emission System (EVAP) Vent Valve/Solenoid system wiring for opens or shorts.

When is the code detected?The Engine Control Module (ECM) has determined that a malfunction exists in the electrical circuit for the vent valve/solenoid in the evaporative emission control system.

Possible causes - Vacuum leaks, damaged hoses or improper routing
- EVAP system - Check fuel cap, canister, valves or components
- Faulty purge or vent solenoids
- Check connector and wiring
- Fuel saturated vapor canister
- Failed EVAP vent solenoid

How do you repair P0446 trouble code on a 2000 pontiac grand prix gtp?

P0446 - Evaporative Emmission Control System Vent Control Circuit
Evap vent valve has only one purpose. It closes in order to seal the vent so the EVAP system can pressurize and ensure there are no leaks. Evap vent valve is usually supplied Batt. voltage with key on. The ECM's driver controls the ground, and when grounded, activates the valve (closing it). If the ECM detects a short to ground, and open,or a short to battery voltage on the control circuit, P0446 will set. Code also may refer to ECM detecting that EVAP system is unable to achieve or maintain vacuum during test.

Symptoms: There will be no obvious symptoms to driver, other than MIL illumination.

Causes: A code P0446 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
* Faulty vent valve
* Open, short or excessive resistance on Vent valve control circuit
* Blockage of vent valve
* Bad PCM

Possible Solutions: With a P0446 OBD-II trouble code, here are some things to try:
* Replace Vent valve
* Repair open, short, or resistance problem in control circuit
* Repair open, or short, or resistance problem in power circuit
* Replace PCM

Repalce the plug and switch the coil pack with another one . One thats on the car A GOOD muffler shop will let you know if your converter is bad. About 100 to 150.00 to replace. Get the universal one will work fine.
