Question about 2000 GMC Envoy

2000 GMC Envoy stalls while driving, shifting issues

I bought a 2000 GMC Envoy ( so I thought.... it has all the markings of Envoy, but VIN lists it as a Jimmy ) Since I bought the truck in July, I have had ongoing issues with it stalling while driving. It would happen with no warning. Initially it would happen every other day, but now I can't even get off my street without it stalling. There were several codes being set. We have: - cleaned the throttle body, after which we drove two days with no issues, this eliminated the EVAP system codes. -replaced the CAT, after which I drove two whole weeks with no issues, now left only with O2 sensor codes. While attampting to replace O2 sensors, one went in effortlessly, the other came out with no difficulty, but taking with it the threading of the crossover pipe. Attempted to drive to garage for new pipe, never got off the street. Truck would not start. Took a boost, started but would not stay running. After several attempts, truck was put into neutral and pushed back into a driveway to wait for a tow. When tow arrived, Truck would not shift out of park, but now would start and stay running. Manually let transmission lever go and put truck into drive, drove back to house, replaced lever. - started looking into ignition switch, found two wires, one small green and one small brown not attached to anything, they appear to be cut clean. Dont know if they are supposed to be attached to anything or not, cannot find a diagram of ignition wiring. - during process of starting and shutting off truck a few times, wiggling ignition, it will now shift. Could a bad ignition switch cause all of this? orignially thought it was a security issue, as it would not allow key to be removed at times. A remote starter was installed, in attempt to bypass ignition key chipset malfunction code. Never had problem after with key not coming out. Please help! I love my truck, but I have had it only three months.... I would love to actually be able to drive it!

Hi,
Yes, the Ignition switch is tied into the 'shift interlock system', and if the system is never really 'off' the codes may be related.

I'd REMOVE the remote start to ensure you're working from a 'clean slate' and get the ignition switch fixed....likely a dealer item, but call around auto parts stores. You may need to get it 'rekeyed' to match.

Also, a Jimmy and Envoy are identical - the Envoy is the higher trim line of the Jimmy: LINK

Smell of the oil,to see if the fuel injector(spider)is leaking into the crank case,if so,the intake will have to be removed to repair the problem,oh,and change the oil.

Sounds like the cpi injector assembly. The fuel pressure regulator may be leaking. Or the poppet valves on the injectors may be sticking or shot. I replaced almost every part on my truck and that is what it ended up being the whole time. It's a common problem on these models. Hope this helped

It sounds like you may need a new starter. The bendix on your current starter may be dry and worn so it could be causing wear on your ring gear.

I have 2004 gmc envoy xl 5.3 engine the code po753 is showing up

You are starting to have a transmission problem. I know....the Envoy runs fine....well, this code is telling you that there is a beginning of a problem with your transmission system. It could be a wire, could be a rock that was ran over flicked up under there and possible damaged something.....
Bottom line, there is a an issue developing. Suggestion? Check with AAMCO...it is free and they can give you an idea what the seriousness is.
Trouble Code: P0753 (5.3L V8 VIN P Auto)
A/T 1-2 Shift Solenoid Circuit Malfunction (4L60-E, 4L65-E)
Trouble Code Conditions:
Engine runtime over 5 seconds, system voltage at 10-18v, engine not in Fuel Cutoff mode, and the PCM detected an unexpected voltage condition on the A/T 1-2 Shift solenoid circuit.
Possible Causes:
  • 1-2 shift solenoid connector is damaged, loose or shorted
  • 1-2 shift solenoid control circuit is open or shorted to ground
  • 1-2 shift solenoid control circuit is shorted to system power
  • 1-2 shift solenoid is damaged or has failed
  • PCM has failed

Jimmy stalls while driving, shifting issues

The following are the general instructions on the start of diagnosing any electronically controlled engine or transmission problem.

The engine and the automatic transmission (transmission control is only for automatics, engine is still computer controlled no matter the transmission type) in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems.
