SOURCE: have had two catalytic converters go out in last 8 months

Catalytic converters should last the life of the vehicle. usually they are damaged be a poorly running engine. most common causes are lean misfire causing unburnt fuel and air to get into the convert and ignite there. coolant or oil burning. engine running too hot (lean) overheating converters.

was it the same converter that went twice? did they change them at the same time? where the pre-converters? is the engine light on?

Incorrect gear ratio

most likely the TR sensor that tells the TCM when to change ratios
it also could be a problem VSS that also tells the TCM when it is right to change ratios
run the fault codes

1999 nissan pathfinder ps300 misfire code can you helpme with this

Replacing parts is not how you diagnose a misfire

You need to look at scan tool data & see the type of misfire
& what the cylinders are & misfire count

Spark Plugs, I just replace every three years, nothing to do
with diagnosing your problem

I never replace wires. I have owned at least two vehicles
that went 17 & 18 years on OE wires
I test them & replace if they were to fail in some way,
or the ends come off

Cap & Rotor can be cleaned,a new one isn't needed to
diagnose a problem

You need to put a fuel pressure gauge on it

Make sure you have no vacuum leaks anywhere,
evap,exhaust,intake ducting,hvac,everywhere

You can't leave the O2 Sensors in there forever,
100,000 miles 6 or 7 years is plenty

You have more than a PO300 code What are they?

991 Nissan Pathfinder XE-V6, @160,000 miles, Automatic Transition, 4x4. Replaced left side exhaust manifold gasket, new cap & roter @2500 miles ago, new Platinum plugs @10,000 ago Truck star

run the fault codes to find which sensor is failing from internal heat build up
when allowed to cool it works fine until it gets hot again

Check engine light on 40,000 miles nissan pathfinder 2006

You must scan the Engine Control Module and collect fault codes before it can be determined why your engine controller turned the light on.
