Replace battery key fob mercury sable

I have a 2001 mercury sable whos 2 key fob remotes are slowly dying. How do I change the batteries on these? There is a **** at the bottom of the remote, but I didn't want to go trying to pry the damn things open if that would just break them.

Thats how to replace the battery. stick something (a dime usually works) into the slot, and pry the 2 halves apart.
You wont break them.

I'd would need to have the year of your FORD to be
sure on telling you how to proceed... but a battery change
should not affect the existing coding.

It sounds as though you are mixing your question about
KEYLESS entry (FOB)... and your
PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) KEYS.

For security purposes...
BOTH of your original keys must be present...

You can... and SHOULD have more than two keys
but you can NOT have LESS THAN two keys to
do any PROGRAMMING, ADDITIONS or modifications.

(FOBS or KEYs)...
YES... YOU DO HAVE A "FOB"... but yours is added to your KEY-TOP... treat it the same (I believe your manual refers to it as a keyless "REMOTE"
(attached key notwithstanding).

THIS is the design INTENT... to prevent
valets, garages... or ANY UNAUTHORIZED person from
creating UNAUTHORIZED SPARE KEYS.

The cloning process is in your OWNES MANUAL.

If you do not have TWO KEYS you MUST go to a
LOCKSMITH or a DEALERSHIP to REGAIN your TWO KEY
functionality...

Battery died on key fob for remote start, astra 100RS, scytek, I changed batteries and now, the light does not come on, for either key fob and remote start doesn't work any more.
may just need new batterys

My battery died in my remote lock/unlock. so I put he new battery in and now my locks don't work
You have most likely 'Lost' the electronic code that the key fob held. Your dealer will reset the key fob code for you.

My remote battery is died when i am opening the door by key the alarm goes on! what can i doe abouth it?
you can have a shop reprogram the reciever in the car to accept the remote. once the battery is removed from the remote it resets the code it transmit (Rolling code)

Sounds like the battery in your key fob died. Just replace the battery. The new transponder fobs require the key to prevent the car from being hotwired or someone just popping the ignition.

I have climate control on my 2001 Sable. I had my battery replaced today , of course all the electrical in the car went out. When I got in the car my air was off I turned it on it only blows very hot...
try disconneting the battery. take the 2 battery cables and touch them together. Now connect them to the battery, turn key on for 2 minutes, now start car and see if a/c works.

You'll find the prices on eBay very reasonable for key blanks & remote units. If you have the transponder key, you'll still save money buying the key elsewhere & having it programmed at your dealer.

I use eBay often & looked this up for you:

Keyless Remote: item # 320484718788 24.99 + 7.48 S&H w/programming instructions.

Ignition Key: Item # 250577989265 9.95 + 4.95 S&H see this one for detailed programming information.

Key fob not opening up car
On a 1997 civic I had, every now and again the remote would stop opening or locking the car. To get it working again, you needed to open the doors using the key and start the engine. Next time you tried the remote, low and beholdit would open and lock the doors again.

Mine had an ifra red key fob, i.e. the type that has to be pointed in to the interior of the car through the windows before pressing the button, rather than a radio type, i.e. so long as you're within a certain distance of the car, it doesnt matter which direct the key fob is pointing.

How do you change battery in key fob on 2002 vw golf
No problem. The key fob is two pieces. The key part and the remote. Open the key as you would to sue it. Where the key flips open you can see a small recess about where the line of the trunck switch. This is where the key separates. You can pull it off or pry it with a small screwdriver. Once separated with remote part in your hand this also splits in 2. In the same area you split the key off insert the screwdriver in this recess and the fob will open giving you access to the battery. Also can be done by hand. It is a little tight so you will have to force which is normal. No screws just clipped. Make sure the battery is positioned in the right way and that you have 3 volts when you test the battery. 2.7 volts will make the remote not work or act funny.
