Gmc envoy makes clunking noise

When the car idles it makes a clunking tinking noise and gets louder under acceleration. ive noticed the idler arm pulley is loose so i removed the belt to check but its still making the same noise. could it be the harmonic balancer is loose or is it the timing belt?

SOURCE: 2005 gmc envoy makes whining, Noise gets louder

Likely the Idle Tensioner Pulley. These will often squeal very badly while driving and even at idle. The pulley is the most likely cause of engine squeal on this vehicle. Replacement for labor and part should be around 200.00 or so from the dealer. Cheaper if a local mechanic will do it.

SOURCE: I have a 98 Gmc Jimmy and everytime I accelerate it makes this noise around the front passenger side and it sounds like when you would put a card in the spokes of a bicycle...? Any ideas of what this

Sounds like you have a bad wheel bearing. Could also be a CV. Make sure you know what wheel before you replace anything. Jack it up and spin the wheel by hand. If correct wheel you will hear it. Hope this helps

Whining engine noise

If the noise increases when idling and reving up the engine then you must check on the engine pulley, the belt idler pulley, the water pump , alternator or the a/c. But if the noise increases when you are moving then you must check on the wheel bearings, the drive shafts and the inspection of the mudguards for tyre rubbing. If so you will have to jack up the car and check for faulty bearings, drives or tyres. SInce the noise can be traced to the point of generation , you will have to have a friend also to check on one side for pinpointing the sound and identifying the part. This must be easier to find and you can easily replace/repair/change the part concerned. Hope you try. Good day

CLUNKING NOISE DRIVERS SIDE ONLY WHEN BRAKING

look under the seat for a bottle under it -

have your front end looked at -
Check your wheels - make sure - 100% that they are not loose by getting out the tire tool and tightening them just a little bit - or a lot if real loose.

check the idler/tensioner pully's and the alternator pully, there is a common problem with one of these 3 going bad, usually an idler pully the best way to check is to get a mechanics stethescope and touch the end to the bolt on the idler pully's you will notice a very distinct sound difference from a smooth pully and one with bad bearings. gm tech here, seen many of these

Rear end noise?

This sounds like ring and pinion noise, new bearings and a gear set will cure the problem.
