Question about 2002 Buick Century
Ok bought this car a while ago with a transmission problem would not shift into third gear ,,so we changed the transmisson out with a newer one and we still have the same problem,,it goes into 1st gear and then shifts to 2nd gear just fine .its when its trying to shift into 3rd gear the problem happens ,it will not shift in to 3rd or overdrive just high rpms and no shift .is there any modules or fuses or solenoids thats external that woulkd cause this kind of problem
I wouldn't think that two transmissions would have the same bad 2-3 shift solenoid . Probably a wiring problem or the driver (transistor ) in side the control module . Do you know how to do automotive electrical testing ? Find the PCM - powertrain control module , then looking at a wiring diagram find the circuit from the PCM to the transmission wiring connector . An check the circuit ! Free wiring diagrams at http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. year , make , model and engine size . Under system click on transmission/ transaxle , subsystem transmission controls . Click the search button then the blue link .The first diagram shows 2-3 shift solenoid electrical circuit from PCM connector 2 - pin 44 to the trans. connector - C 113 pin B . Check for a open in the wire ,if no open check to see if the PCM driver is supplying a ground . Videos on youtube show how to test this .

It sounds like your input clutch seals are rolling. Is the check engine light on. It could also be the pressure control solenoid could be causing the problem aswell

you will need to replace the 3-4 shift solenoid inside the tranny - either it works or doesn't - alternatively it could be the wire... not a big deal, but the shops charge for that..

check for sift solenoid fault. Have a fault code read. Talk to a tranny specialist as it may be a common fault.
