My overdrive off light just out of no where starts flashing the whole time while driving, not allowed to do much over 55 mph!!
I had problem(ford escape 6V 3.0 4x4 2002 )with the OD light it was on, transmission looked crazy and it engaged different speed for itself . The problem was that the sensor( high speed ) was wet and rusted ,this sensor is attached to the transmission box , it is inside in new models, the cost is 75 dollars and the labor cost 99 dollars..

Ours is doing this same thing. O/D OFF light blinking on gear shifter. 2001 Ford F150 4x4. It will run fun in park and neutral, but when put in reverse or drive, it sounds like it's bogging down and when we try to accelerate, it goes nowhere. Fuse #23 was blown, replaced with a new one. However, it continues to blow. Trouble codes that came up are: P1747, P0755, P0743, P0443, P1451, P0135, P0141, P0155, P0161, P0750, AND P1409.

Check the transmission wiring harness to see if it has been corroded by oil or fluid. If you see oil and dirt (near the connectors) clean it and see if you can see any exposed wire. If you can see exposed wire change the transmission wiring harness. (Wires maybe touching)

Two things can do this ,one is dirt or rust on the wiring to your solenoid on top of the gearbox.the other thing is your overdrive relay has failed .if so just change it.

Commonly overdrive problem is on the transmission. you should go the the auto.workshop to identify and fix the problem maybe shiftsolenoid,or torqconverter.

Code P 1757
Posted on Dec 21, 2013
My 1999 f-150 did that and it would shift hard when light was flashing. Turned out to be shift "solenoid B" in valve body of transmission. I had to get a transmission shop to put a high end code reader on truck to find problem. Part wasn't bad to replace once oil pan was off.

I had the same thing on a f250 it had been to two other dealers that had failed to find the cause ( and yes I know this may sound like a joke IT IS NOT )check your battery terminals make sure there is no trace of corrosion and on one of the terminals it will have a little box mounted to the terminal make suer the two faces are completely flat and hard against each other if they don't mount flat it wont give a good contact this fixed two trucks that we had
cheers hope this helps let me know

It means it has logged a fault code, same as engine check light really, you need a scantool to find out what codes have been logged

Your transmission is in limp mode. Could be a broken band in the trans or a blown valve body gasket.

Transmission need to check asap, mostlikely the tranny is going bad.

This can't be solved by the push of a button. If your overdrive light is blinking (like a turn signal or hazard light), it is indicating that there is a problem with your car's transmission. It could be the solenoid or possibly the speed or range sensors. There are many different issues that can cause the light to flash.
When your transmission's control unit senses an issue, it will store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) in the computer. To determine which component is the culprit, bring your vehicle to a repair shop or buy an OBD2 scanner to get the code(s).
The following example codes all point to a possible shift solenoid malfunction ('A', 'B', 'C' indicate which solenoid is experiencing the problem):
P0752 Shift Solenoid 'A' Stuck On, P0756 Shift Solenoid 'B' Performance or Stuck Off - Debris obstructing the mechanical function or flow of fluid. If there are a lot of metal shavings and debris on the transmission pan, there could have already been a mechanical failure and the transmission might need to be replaced.
P0796 - Pressure Control Solenoid 'C' Stuck On
P0795 Pressure Control Solenoid Valve "C".
A typical solenoid replacement cost is $250 to $600, depending on how many solenoids are replaced and the type of vehicle. It is advised to have all solenoids replaced at the same time so that they don't fail one after another in a short period of time.

That is the check engine light. you need to have engine codes extracted to find out what is happening. Something (a sensor?) is probably out of range and the computer has derated the engine as in "safe mode" to limit possible further damage

Your abs speed sensor/wheel sensor can make this happen it sounds like your truck is in limp/safe mode some times there is an intrunal tranns problem that will do that ground wires form the pcm ecu bcm all can do that as well its not ez to di ag this you need a scaner not a code reader something that will do live data to really pin point this

SOURCE: overdrive light started flashing
the OD light is flashing to let u know a fault has occurred in the transmission electronic controls or that it is slipping plus other issues, go to Kragen or Autozone and ask them to run a trouble code test, it is free, post the code back here for me to look at.

SOURCE: 2005 Ford Escape XLT 4WD - Overdrive light blinking...
The overdrive light blinking means that a fault code has been stored in the computer, this can be for many different reasons. The car isn't actually turning overdrive on and off, it is just a way to alert you of a problem. Getting the computer scanned will provide a fault code eg. P(XXXX) if you can get this code I can help you further. -Jared

The problem is caused by electrical noise making the torque convertor go in and out of lock up. The dodge dealer has a computer flash for it. The fash only works about 30% of the time. This is a major problem to diag. Usually requires ground straps installed on pcm or pcm replacement could also be the altenator, wiring, or anything that runs to the pcm or tranny.

SOURCE: Why does my overdrive light flash while i drive. I have a 1999 Ford Explorer.
It means the transmission has seen a fault and there will be a code set for
the fault. Get the trouble codes read at an auto parts store such as AutoZone where they usually do it free and post the code if you can. It can reset its self
every time you turn the vehicle off but it will not fix the problem. Could be a minor or a major problem so you don't know till the codes are read.

SOURCE: my overdrive light is flashing
If your overdrive light is flashing, it is trying to tell you that there is a transmission failure. You will have to scan your powertrain control module to find out what is wrong.
