Question about 2005 Toyota Matrix

1 Answer

2005 Matrix intake manifold gasket failed at 44,000

That's incredibly early, particularly for a babied car. Both injection sprus have hairline cracks in them; I think it's a bad part. Has anyone else run into this?

And get this: because it's part of the 'emissions system' (on the intake side no less) it's not covered by the powertrain warranty. I feel burned.

Thanks for the thought, but the factory rep is giving the local service manager a hard time about it; so far no help. The powertrain warranty is still in effect (5/60), but (get this) the entire air train (including the intake manifold and it's gasket) is considered part of the emissions system, which only has a 3/36 warranty.

NOT what you expect from Toyota, but so far they've been no help at all. I do still have the gasket, which looks NOS except for the cracks at the sprus. Time will tell.

Update and closed file: the factory (Toyota) is coughing up the cost ($166) of the replacement intake manifold gasket and labor. I haven't received the letter and check yet, but the local dealer swears it's coming. It will be interesting to see what they say, but apparently they agreed that it was a part or assembly problem.

A clear case of being a squeeky wheel sometimes. They'd have been happy to let me pay for it. Don't be afraid to make some specific, non-personal noise when you think you have a legitimate case.

It should be covered by the toyota factory emissions warranty then, i'd check with toyota first. the emmissions system has a separate warranty. worth a shot!

Purchasing 1996 grand marquis with 120k miles, should I replace intake manifold before it fails?

Intake manifolds are metal and don't usually fail. The gaskets that seal it to the engine may leak with time. If it isn't broke, don't fix it. Your major concern should be the condition of all rubber hoses including the flexible brake line hoses on the front wheels. There are metal springs inside the radiator hoses that help prevent the hoses from collapsing. Squeeze the hoses at the radiator connections (cold engine) to see if they feel gummy , have cracks, and still have the springs inside.

P0307 code on a 2005 crown vic

Cylinder misfire on #7.could be bad spark plug,or bad coil.try replacing coil and plug at# 7. It is the second last plug on the driver's side. If you pull the coil out and there is antifreeze in the spark plug hole, you may have a bad intake gasket or cracked intake manifold and the antifreeze is shorting the coil out. In that case you may have to replace the intake manifold.

What are the symptoms of a bad intake gasket on a 1999 buick century?

Coolant leaks,When the intake manifold gasket cracks or blows out, coolant will leak out of the intake manifold. You may see puddles underneath your car or notice smoke or steam coming off of the engine and exhaust from the coolant dripping onto it and then burning.Overheating, If the intake manifold gasket fails and allows coolant to leak out into the engine, your car will begin to overheat. If your car frequently runs low on coolant or begins to overheat, check the intake manifold gasket.Running poorly, When the intake manifold gasket falters, it affects the way the motor handles its emission gases. The change in pressure can affect the vacuum in the intake as well as how smoothly your car runs. Mainly, it will idle roughly and may hesitate, cough or sputter.

Need to find a plastic Upper Intake Manifold for a 2001 Mazda Tribute 3.0L 6cy. Mine has a crack. A part number or a autoparts web site where I could order one from would be great. I've had no success...

The 3.0L Mazda should be the same as the Escape.
I found this website for Ford OEM parts (It's probably a Ford dealer);

Look under Intake Manifold:
Fuel system Cruise control Fuel induction Fuel injection Intake Intake manifold Manifold gasket

Intake manifold, escape, mariner, 3.0l, upper
01-04 ($214.98 List) $151.95
plus tax and shipping.
Don't forget the gaskets.

Have a Buick regal with 3.8 had coolant #6 cylinder. Broke it down and replaced heads, gaskets, still leaking and intake manifold has no cracks. What is the problem.

a hairline crack in the piston wall. the next time you break it down you will need MAGNAFLUX (a blue dye that is reflective under black light) and a black light...wipe the maganaflux on the entire cylinder wall then illuminate it with a black light. the slightest crack in the metal will stick out like a sore thumb.

White smoke coming out of tail pipe, iddles.

usually a sign of a blown head gasket or intake gasket or, gulp a cracked head or block. Check your engine oil for a milky color, This would confirm a blown head gasket. There is a test to determine if hydrocarbons are in your coolant. If your coolant level is low or empty, this is another sign.
