Question about 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Open Question

Dash Lights, (not telltale lights), and high beam headlamps are not working. All fuses have been checked and verified functional, including side-of-dash and under-hood fuses and relays. Low beam headlamps and all other accessories seem to be working, IE: keyless entry, dome light, glove box light. This manifested after removal of dash for work on the A/C Blend door for the defrost outlet. 1999 Tahoe LS 5,7L 4x4. I am hoping I don't have to chase this problem back under the dash.

    Ended up being a bad Fader Control Switch. Easy fix once I diagnosed it correctly. Turns out that the daytime running lamps had me fooled, they were operational, but tail lights, dome light, dash lights and everything else that ran through that switch wouldn't work unless slaved to another control. IE: the dome light would work when the keyless entry was used, and the running lamps were on when the truck was running. Process of elimination regarding what functions were affected and what switches may be involved.

There is more than one relay I know but make sure your bulbs are good I HAVE seen this happen more than once.. low beams can go at once.. and still have hi beams check this first please .. Jerry

SOURCE: dome lights won't turn off

Been having a problem with the dome lights on a 99 chevy blazer. Still can't figure out what the problem is. There is a dome light overide button located under the dimmer wheel. When I push the overide button in the dome light goes off, but when I open any of the doors the dome light will not come on. When the overide button is out the dome light stays on all the time and will not turn off even though every door is closed. I checked all the pushbuttons and everything tests good. Has anyone had this problem and know how to fix it?

Problem i am having is a no headlight issue i replaced my icm about a week ago and now i have no lights at all no dash lights no running lights no high beam lights


As far as interior lamps, there may be an interior dimmer, it rotates to increase or lower interior lamps, and usually includes the dash lamps.
If the lo beams work but not the hi beams, have to check headlamp dimmer switch.

Why wont the headights or running lights work on my 2002 Buick LaSabre?


There are several reasons why your headlamps an running lights don't work , the headlamp switch is a good one ,plus relays an the DIM - dash integrated module an associated wiring ! Here is how the headlamps work , right out of Buick factory service info !
The dash integration module (DIM) provides battery positive voltage to the signal circuits of the headlamp switch. The signal circuits include the headlamp switch headlamps on signal, the flash to pass switch signal and the high beam input. With the headlamp switch in the ON position, a ground path is available for the headlamp switch headlamps on signal circuit of the DIM through the headlamp switch. The DIM provides ground to either the headlamps high beam relay control circuit or the headlamps low beam relay control circuit of the low beam circuit. The position of the headlamp dimmer switch determines which relay control circuit has ground. The DIM supplies battery positive voltage to the relay control circuits, if the headlamps are necessary. The fuse block - underhood supplies battery positive voltage to both relay switch circuits. When the low beam relay control circuit is energized, current flow is to both low beam fuses and to the low beam headlamps. The headlamps have ground at G103 and at G401. When the headlamp high beam relay control circuit is energized, current flow is to both high beam fuses and to the high beam headlamps. The high beam circuit is divided into a left and right side circuit. The current flow of the left high beam is from the fuse to the left high beam lamp. From the lamp, the current flows to the normally-closed contact of the DRL relay to G103. The current flow of the right high beam is from the fuse to the right high beam lamp. From the lamp, the current flow is to ground at G401. When the headlamp dimmer switch lever is pulled toward the driver, the flash-to-pass switch closes. This grounds the DIM flash to pass switch signal circuit. In response to this input, the DIM energizes the HDLP HI BM relay. Both high beams remain on until the driver releases the switch handle. If the low beam headlamps were on during a flash to pass operation, the low beams remain on. The headlights may be switched to high beam with the opposite movement of the headlamp dimmer switch lever.
By running lights , do you mean park lamps or day time running lamps ?
Park, Tail, License and Marker Lamps
The park lamps, including the license lamps, are turned on when the headlamp switch is placed in the PARK or ON position or anytime the headlights are requested. The fuse block - rear supplies battery positive voltage to the switch contacts of the Park LP relay. When the headlamp switch is in PARK or in ON, the park lamp switch on signal circuit of the DIM has a ground path. The DIM provides battery positive voltage to the control circuit of the Park LP relay. When the park lamps and/or the tail lamps are ON, the DIM energizes the park lamp relay control circuit. This closes the switch contacts. Current flows from the Park LP relay to the LH PARK LP and the RH PARK LP fuses. From the fuse, the current flows to the park lamps. The left park lamps are grounded at G103, G401 and G402. The right park lamps and the right tail lamps are grounded at G103 and G401. The DIMR fuse supplies battery positive voltage to the license lamps and to the DIM instrument panel lamp fuse supply voltage - 1 circuit, for interior lamps dimming. The license lamps are grounded at G401.
The best advice I can give is that you take this to a ASE certified professional repair facility unless your a qualified automotive electric repair person !

headlights control by headlamp driver module relay to the BCM and the light sensor on dash next to the winshield defrost vents.headlights also control by high beam relay.

High beam indicator comes on with fog lights


Could your Mazda have daytime running lights? If you checked all fuses, did that include the three in the joint box?

There is an auto light-off control module that is central to all functions you describe. It is assumed that you would only turn on the fog lights with headlights on and set for high beam. If you set the headlight switch to LOW, the module closes the headlight relay to turn on the low beams. If you then turn the headlight switch to HIGH, the module turns on the high beams and allows you to turn on the FOG LIGHT switch, closing the fog light relay and turning on the fog lights. Since this sequence is not working, I suggest checking both high beam lamps as both could be burned out. Other possibilities are a defective headlight switch or the module

98 ford lariat. Headlights stopped working. running lights come on and brake lights and turn signals. checked all fuses under dash and under hood, pulled out headlight switch and it looks fine. note only...


Is this both the high beams and low beams that do not work ?

If you checked all 3 fuses with a meter ( with the headlamp in Low position for both low beam fuses or in high for the high beam fuse ), the next items to test are the MFS ( MultiFunction Switch ) and the main headlamp switch ( test not look at it ).

clean the computer lead interface. my buddies car did the same thing, we cleaned the computer leads with a good eletronic spray cleaner and it fixed the problem.

Daytime Running Lamps
The daytime running lamp (DRL) system is designed to turn the high beam headlamps on, with a reduced light output, and without illuminating the high beam indicator lamp in the instrument panel. You have a DRL Module.
The multifunction switch is the stalk on your column.

This is 96 F150 circuit. Don't have 94.

does the flash to pass function work? That uses high beam bulbs.

If yes, I would bet $100 it's the lighting control module. Very expensive. @ $500. Can buy for $250 @ tascafordparts.com.

Sometimes on Ebay for cheap price.

Lighting Control Module Principles of Operation
NOTE: Due to varying wattage ratings and resulting current draw, certain aftermarket headlamp bulbs may cause the lighting control module (LCM) to shut down the short circuit protection, resulting in the low beams becoming inoperative. Verify that the headlamp bulbs meet Ford specifications.
The lighting control module (LCM) receives inputs from the following:
  • headlamp switch
  • multifunction switch
  • photocell and amplifier
Depending on the inputs received, the LCM will command the headlamps on or off.

Power is supplied to the headlamps through lighting control module Circuit 502 (GY) and circuit protection C in the fuse junction panel. Ground is provided to the headlamp bulb and retainer (13N021) through Circuit 57 (BK).

The lighting control module is located under the instrument panel, to the right of the steering column, under the lower steering column cover.

Removal and Installation
  1. Open hood. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301).
  1. Disengage three pushpins and remove lower driver side intrument panel (04320) finish panel.
  1. Locate lighting control module above accelerator pedal.
  1. Disconnect bottom two eletrical connectors from lighting control module.
  1. Remove two screws retaining LCM to bracket and unclip from bracket.
  1. Remove lighting control module from bracket and disconnect two remaining electrical connectors.
  1. To install, reverse Removal procedure. Check lighting control module for proper operation.

the module is about 6 inches lng and 4 inches wide and has 3 wire connectors.
