Question about 2001 Buick Regal

Buick Regal 2001 LS dashboard lights flash off and on

Regal dashboard lights start flashing off and on and needles go back and forth, warning bell dings. If I get it started, it will start doing it and shut down while driving. Braking is sporadic then. The battery was 5+ years old so I replaced it and immediately car started right up and worked fine. Turned off and restarted to check and started fine. Put tester on battery and came up with 14.7. That was last night. This morning started fine. This afternoon, back to flashing lights and dinging. Tester on battery again over 14 and put negative on battery negative and positive on alternator gave reading over 12. I have read that ignition switch could cause some of these problems or alternator. Any ideas?

It turned out the ground wire to the battery was loose, Evidently, it loosened up when driving so mimiced the earlier symptoms because it connection was sporadic. I hooked up to a computer to verify after connection tightened and it came away with no errors or problems.

With my car, that isn't it, although when WalMart installed my new battery, they did strip out the screw on the positive post. So I had to go back and ask them to fix it, and then the alternator gave out. I figured there was some connection there, but WalMart just stonewalled it. How hard should it be to put in a new battery without stripping out the connection?? I wouldn't buy a stick of chewing gum from them anymore if I could help it.

It sounds like it thinks the key is still in it all the time. Try turning the key forward to the on position, but not running, so the dinging stops. disconnect the battery. Remove the key completely and reconnect the battery.

1998 Saab Bell will not stop dinging, even when key is removed.

the lights are most likely the third brake light on the decklid... small line of led brake lights small unit.. i would clean the ignition switch with some quick start and cycle the key in and out to clean up the contact on the bottom some times soda or coffe gets in there and makes the car think that the cars key is in the ignition
