Question about 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
SOMETIMES VEHICLE (2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE) WON'T START. YOU GET NOTHING WHEN YOU HIT THE KEY, NO CLICKING, NO NOTHING. YOU MAY GO BACK LATER AND IT WILL START. GAUGES GO CRAZY. WILL COME ON. ODOMETER AND CLOCK WILL FLASH. SOMETIMES SPEEDOMETER WILL GO FROM 60 TO ZERO AND BACK. WILL NOT LOSE POWER THOUGH. YOU CAN HAVE KEY OFF AND SOMETIMES GAUGES WILL TWITCH. JUST NOTICED THAT WITH KEY OFF IF YOU HIT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS THAT GAUGES WILL MOVE. JEEP DEALERSHIP CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT AND NEITHER CAN MY MECHANIC. MECHANIC THINKS ITS A ELECTRIC PROBLEM? WHAT ABOUT IGNITION? OBVIOUSLY THERE MUST BE SOME JUICE GETTING TO GAUGES WITH KEY OFF. ALSO, JEEP IS IN WON'T START MODE NOW. I NOTICED WHEN HITTING KEY AND TRYING TO START I GET NOTHING....NO LIGHTS, BELLS, OR WHISTLES. YET IF I SHIFT JEEP INTO NEUTRAL, CAR WON'T START, BUT THE GAUGES ON DASH LIGHT UP, AND BELL GOES OFF??? I KNOW NOTHING MECHANICAL SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT ANY OF THIS MEANS, BUT THOSE THAT SHOULD KNOW SEEM TO BE HAVING TROUBLE ALSO. THANK YOU
Poor grounding can cause many of the conditions you have listed. When checking power with a volt meter, this goes unnoticed because the meter does not draw enough amperage to cause the bad connection to break contact. Your battery is grounded to the engine block and also has a small lead to the fender. Many components have individual ground leads as well (including most computers) I would check all ground leads and clean the contact surfaces with sandpaper or a wire brush. Adding an additional ground wire is a good idea as well. Don't forget that the dash board frame must also provide a good ground as well.
Many times this is all you need to do...sometimes though, control modules can be damaged because in having a partial ground, they build up heat, due to additional resistance in the circut.
This may or may not cure your problem, but it's worth checking out. Grounding is often overlooked, especially if it has not completely broken down.

Did the grounding solve your problem?? I am currently going through this same problem with my 2003. I was driving on the highway and the gauges started going crazy. Stopped and turned off the car, and when I tried to start it again, it did the same as what was listed above (gauges twitch, doesn't turn over, no power at all). I went and had my battery replaced and that got me going but noticed the amp meter moves back and forth a little.

Try checking the ground on airbag control under drivers seat. I have very loud system and I guess mine vibrated loose and was causing all kinds of weird and crazy stuff to happen. Took me like 2 weeks to find it and completely fixed all issues in about 5 min. Regardless of where it might be, sounds like your having grounding issues

Check grounds under the hood , watch this video ! could also be the TIPM - totally integrated power module . Google TIPM . Chrysler , Dodge , and Jeep all use this module . Chrysler Pacifica TIPM Electrical Problems

Check your battrry mabe it not clean end you have corrosion
juste clean end try start again

Sometimes corroded battery wires close to the terminals is the problem. You cant see this corrosion, because of the wire isolation. To check if this is a possibility, switch the headlights on and try to start. Will the lights go dim or completely out? If yes, then check first the battery itself. If ok, check the wires for corrosion.
