Transmission problem in E230 Benz

Hi, I have a problem with transmission system when it is changing from 1st to 2nd gear. The system is automatic transmission. Symptomp started by having a jerking feeling everytime when car changed gear from 1st to 2nd (feel like some other car hit you gently from the backside), but there is no problem when speed down (from 2nd to 1st gear). I sent my car to an autoshop to fix it and when it came back problem still exist. The worst part is now I have more problem when changing gear from 1st to 2nd and plus 2nd to 3rd gear.

From 1st to 2nd gear, there is a mix between jerking motion (sometimes) and delayed-sequence of gear shifting (everytime). It should have shifted to 2nd gear, but it was still stay in the 1st gear for couple of seconds longer which leads to rising of engine's rpm.

From 2nd to 3rd gear, there is only delayed-sequence of gear shifting. No jerkin motion.

There is no problem when gear shift from higher to lower one.

Thank you for your time listenning to my problem. I'd be really appreciated if you could help guide me to a right direction. Thank you.

Hi RamTek, thanks a lot for your suggestion. I also got some advices to flush transmission oil, changing ATF filter and plastic insert in transmission linkage shifter. Is this plastic part the same as what you refer as transmission release bearing? I know very little about transmision system.

Another portion that I still blank is why it only happen in 1st and 2nd gear? If the mechanic of gear shifting went wrong, shouldn't it affect other gears as well? Thanks.

What you need to check is the transmission release bearing because if there is a clearance on the release bearing you will encounter this problem and also check the transmission oil.

Governor pressure controls the 1st and 2nd shifts. After that is the 3 and 4 solenoids. you would need to look at the pressure when driving(takes a scanner). pressure is 20 to 30 PSI from 1st to 2nd, depends on acceleration. After that the pressure will jump to 100+ psi. Did you replace the governor solenoid and sensor? They are on the passenger side of the transmission and sit in a block that detaches from the valve body.

Change fluid, check modulator? Very old MB towing any number of things could have happened to that transmission. Could be a vacuum leak.

\'93 Hyundai Lantra, automatic transmission has trouble changing up from 1st to 2nd, it tends to rev on a bit, clunks once or twice before changing to 2nd, other gears seem to be ok. Oil levels are ok and have recently replaced the transmission oil (yes the correct oil was used)

S/w switch

It has to do with the transmission mission. The 'S' stands for standard, and the 'W' stands for winter. When you are in 'S' mode, the transmission starts out in 1st gear normally, but when you select 'W' mode, the transmission will start out in 2nd gear, to help reduce wheel slip on slippery surfaces.
