Question about 1999 Ford Expedition
Where is the egr valve located on 99 Ford Expedition 4.6l engine/ would this cause the engine to run rough
The EGR valve is in a very difficult spot to work on. If the EGR is bad it will set off the check engine light and make the vehicle run rough or stall at idle. It really doesn't make it run rough while driving or accelerating. What are the conditions when the car runs rough?

The EGR valve is the round disk looking piece with a vacuum line coming out of the top. It is located to the right of the carburetor. It is approximately 3 inches wide. If you are experiencing a trouble code P0401, you have insufficient flow through the valve. In expeditions, It is usually a blockage at the intake. The low pressure valve on the 01 expedition is located on the accumulator on the passenger side fire wall. The accumulator is underneath the battery relay and a grouping of wires. Had to squeeze hand underneath a heater hose and an a/c line to remove cap and hook up hose. Nothing has to be removed to locate the valve just a little touchy feely. Valve faces a 45 forward toward the engine.

Remove the throttle body housing on the top of the intake, it is a 90 degree tunnel like small piece held by 4 small bolts, turn it over and look for two holes, these holes are for the EGR valve flow, they are probably plugged up with carboned crud, clean them out with the tip of a screwdriver if neccessary to remove all the crud, once its clean reinstall it and reset your check engine light, hope this helps, let me know

A flashing CEL means that you might be causing damage to your CATs. It
will flash when the PCM senses a misfire bad enough to cause fuel to
dump into the exhaust. When that happens lay off the throttle. Chances
are you've got a bad injector or bad plug.
Use a code reader to know the real reason that check engine light come on.
