The only thing you can really do on your own is pull the wheels off and check for any obvious signs of wear or damage to sensors and circuits. Otherwise, the module will have to be scanned to pull codes for further diagnosis.

SOURCE: ABS LIGHT COMES ON AND DISENGAGES THE ABS BUT

When the ABS light is on the ABS system is deactivated. Meaning, when the abs is light is on and you brake, the tires will lock up with heavy braking.

Escapes have a common issue of the ABS excitor rings cracking causing ABS problems. Sometimes it activates on almost every brake application. It may set a code in the ABS computer for an intermitten wheel speed sensor or no wheel speed signal. Check all the "rings" on the outside of all four axleshafts. If none of the rings are cracked it is likely a bad ABS wheel speed sensor.

SOURCE: The abs light comes on

Most likely a bad wheel speed sensor. Pull the code to see if it is related to same.

SOURCE: abs light comes on when driving

It's around a 200-250 dollars per wheel to repair assuming it's wheel speed sensor. If it's the ABS Control Module it's big bucks. Dealer wants 55.00 just to read the code. If you can do it yourself than have the code read at an Autozone and buy the part online. I didn't want to deal with fixing it myself and throwing money into a 13 yr old van thats transmission can explode at any time (I'm on my 3rd). I just pulled the "L" 60A fuse from the engine compartment which disables the ABS. The brakes work fine without ABS. The light will still go on shortly after you start it but this disables the Mechanical ABS test that starts when you hit 4 MHP. The test makes all kinds of noise and messes with the brake pedal temporarily. Everytime I get down to the end of my street it went off, scared the **** out of my teen drivers. Now the only annoying thing is the light but I can live with that.

Hi I have a Hyundai Lantra 1995 model and after starting the car and driving off the ABS brake light comes on the dash and stays on what would be the problem

There is a fault in the car's ABS system. It goes through a system check each time you start the car and if it finds a fault, the ABS light stays on to let you know something's wrong. Have the trouble codes read to find out exactly what the fault is.

Need to have a code scanner hooked up to it to find out why the light comes on, that will identify the problem, might be one of the four wheel speed sensors.
