Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a 2004 Toyota Sienna. We were driving down the highway yesterday afternoon and our A/C was working fine, then halfway through our drive, it stopped blowing cold air then went to hot air. It started to smell like burning plastic, so we turned it off and rolled the windows down and continued on our drive and just waited till late evening to drive back home. What should we do first, before spending an arm and leg at the dealership?

I would take it to an accredited ac specialist shop if you have to. The burning plastic smell is from a shorted wire ( ac compressor solenoid or thermostat under the dash)

SOURCE: 2004 toyota sienna a/c not working one side cold other side warm

there are two a/c lines that run down the fire wall under the van to the rear.right around the bottom of the fire wall the is a connection point on both lines. you will find a leak there .replace the orings and recharge system. also you will need two specail toyota tools to release the couplings.i have done this repair on several sienna's. let me know if this helps.

Battery fully charged, engine won't start or even turn over, gear locked in park, brake pedal is depressed.

This may help: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/274-2nd-generation-2004-2010/199861-04-sienna-transmission-lock.html
There are multiple issues here.Won't crank? Go direct to starter.

check the alternator and see if the battery light is on on the dash. if the light is on then the alternator is faulty. or there might be a ground somewhere...

Toyota has a problem with sludge in the engine which clogs up the oil pump pick up.Which could lead to oil starvation and engine damage. There is a recall on this if you meet requirements.Contact your dealer.
