This is usually caused by a bad connection on the batt or term. Check the wires going to the bat terminal sometimes they will get loose or even come off

Sounds like the computer is confused or fried. You might try removing the battery cable for about a minute and then putting it back on. You will probably have to reset the radio codes after doing that. If that doesn't work the unit may have to be replaced.

How 2005 ford freestar radio diagnostic test

There isn't what you would call a test per se. If you have power to the unit, and a good ground, the radio should work. If the cassette or CD functions, but nothing but static from radio, suspect a faulty antenna or lead. Ford radios are well known for failure after a few years, especially in areas with hot, humid climates. I've replaced a bunch of them!

2004 Freestar-In Jan. it just started hesitating and it would not get over 30 mph. I had it towed to the dealer and they could not find problem. I picked it up and it ran good. I noticed the radio had lost...

Take van to reputable Ford dealer and have them hook it up to computer and check for any codes.
The vehicle computer might have to be reset for the egr system. What they did was disconnect your battery for the quicki reset for vehicle, thats why your radio had reset.

2005 ford freestar wont start

Check the battery. If the battery is weak all you will hear is the starter soliniod clicking. Make sure that all of the cables have good clean tight connections.
Most Auto parts stores can test your battery to see what shape it is in.

2005 Ford Freestar Want start sometimes.

A late reply; I'm sure you have found the problem by now-
It sounds as if the battery (old and new) are not receiving sufficient charge.
Check the drive belt tension and add a cheap digital multimeter to your 'tools.'  These can be had for well under $20 US and you can then check across the battery terminals to see if the charge voltage is between ~ 13-14.3 volts at an idle. In no case should it be lower than 13 volts with the engine running since the nominal battery voltage is 12.6 volts when fully charged.
You may have a separate regulator that is ill.
