If you have front and rear heat, There is a pair of Hose and Pipes that run under the car under the passenger side from the engine past tailpipe to the rear. The metal pipes rot and leak out. If no rear heat you won't have these pipes. System is a closed loop water pump, lower hose, radiator, upper hose ,thermostat, hose to, heater core behind firewall in behind the dash and back out. It makes a loop with constant flow and under pressure. Any antifreeze smell in car? burnt maple syrup smell? Find and fix leak/ and flush system. Add Fresh antifreeze . The radiator is a metal and plastic bonded, sometime the radiator leaks at that seam, on 3.3 and 3.8 it is on passenger side, just replace the radiator if it is leaking. Good Luck!!

Hi there.
Well you can either have a problem with either radiator outer {dust/dirt in outer core of radiator or clogged up inside were water goes, or soft hoses, blowen head gasket plus a few others ,but first go to garage to were you blow up your tyres and use the air hose and blow out the radiator core where the air goes in, 2 drain out radiator water and then refill with water at 1 ltr at a time and then check your info car book and find how much water the radiator takes ,if it dosent take all the ltrs then the radiator is blocked inside.
if engine runs rough missing etc then get your Head gasket checked out.
When you say no heat is that with heat on gauge or no heat from heater, as it could be heater blockage same as radiator core. So let me know how you get on.

Sure, have your system pressure checked. Worst case scenario, thermostat could be installed upside down or a bad head gasket. Also check for water in the oil or oil in the water. If you don't know how to do this ask at your local parts store.

1999 dodge caravan 3.0L is overheating. We have to drive with the heat full blast and when the heat stops blowing we have to pull over and add water! When you take the radiator cap off the water just pours...

Stop that!

If you are driving to the point the heater stops blowing hot air, you are way beyond the point where it should be driven.
You will or already have blown the head gasket.

And do NOT take the radiator cap off a hot engine.
Not only is that extremely dangerous of being badly scalded, but most of the water is supposed to come shooting out!
The engine is supposed to be above the boiling point, and only pressure holds it in.

And you can't just pour water in.
First of all, the temperature change will be too quick and again you risk warping the head. But the system also has to be bleed to get rid of air blockages.

The first thing to do is find the leak.
It appears to be the waterpump from your description. It is only $40 or so. Just change it and the thermostat, immediately. Then fix the temp gauge. Take the temp sensor wire off and short it to ground. The gauge should max out. If it does, then replace the sensor. If it does not move, replace the gauge.
Labor for water pump is about another $100 or so. Another $20 for coolant. Do not run pure water, or else there will be too much corrosion.

My 1999 dodge neon is overheating and just changed water pump and thermostat radiator. No leaks and no water in oil. Changed thermostat again and same problem . How can you tell if water pump is bad and...

Last time I had this problem I had a cracked head. With the cap off the radiator, run the engine at idle to operating temperature. When your looking in the radiator you should see the water circulating if the water pump is working. When you say the motor is over heating, if you have fluid coming out of the over flow hose then yes you are most likely overheating, if you are just seeing the gauge indicate you are over heating you may just have a bad engine temp sensor.
