Question about 1988 Ford F 150

1 Answer

Air flow problem with my heating/air in my truck. Turn blower on high and very little air comes out the ports, more from the defroster, little from the dash. I took blower motor off and it seems fine.

I even stuck a leaf blower in one of the dash ports and a strong flow of air comes through all of them. The cables to the controls that tell the air where to go seem all connected. The problem is there whether the heat is on or the AC

Easily check the problem with the ac by seeing if the ac compressor clutch is engaged when the ac is off

Testimonial: "Heat and ac both work. The ac compressor operates properly. Both fine I just don't get air flow through the vents, at least very little. I took off the Blower motor and its good in all 3 settings. No blockage that I can see, there just isn't adequate air coming to vents. Wish I had a drawing or schematic to see the internals of the system. Thank you"

depending on the vehicle condition in the cab it is possible for the evaporator fins to become clogged with dirt, dust and greasy gunk ( dirty black /grey color same stuff that blocks the ac drain pipe )
as all air passes through the evaporator to get to the vents any blockage here will stop air flow
it can be cleaned by a coil cleaner product used to clean house hold ac units but don't use any think caustic or with alkaline base as that will eat the aluminium material

My windows are not defrosting properly.

Do you have heat? Does the fan turn on? are you getting air from the defroster vents close to the windshield? If you have heat make sure the defrost control is working. I'd open the outside air vent and turn the blower on high speed. If there is no heat, the heater control valve is not working. Double check the radiator fluid tank, make sure you have enough fluid (antifreeze) Low fluid levels can reduce the hot water flow to the heater coil inside the car. If there
is no air flow through the defroster vents you may have a problem with the fan control, or the fan motor. Good luck.

Why is air coming from all three areas (vents/floor/defrost) regardless of setting?

There is actually two blend door actuator that control the opening and closing of your vents. Ine is located under the drivers side dash board. The is on the passengers side. Both are electric and I didnt have the money to replace them so i removed them and turned it with a pliers to allow heat to come out of bothe sides of the vent. Then come summer flip the little bar back the other way to A/C
Hope this helps
God blessss

Little heat

Check the air divert-er door, does the air blow any harder when the panel controls are set to any other direction? If so check for blockage in the defrost vents.

2000 jeep grand cherokee, only blow out a little air even when the blower on hi,,you have to put your hand next to the vent to feel the air

you may have had something fall down into the defrost vent and it has worked its way down and is blocking the air flow thats trying to come out the vents, near the blower motor.also does it sound like the blower motor is spinning on high speed or at a lower speed, you could have a slow turning blower motor.

Air flow in car vents low

Sounds like the flap that controls the direction of air flow is stuck in the wrong position. Possibly a vacuam line off the actuator.

Little air coming out the vents

is the fan motor working at full speed
check for blocked cabin air filter
the vacuum only works the vent controls and as you can feel the changes of the vents , it is not vacuum
