SOURCE: transmission shifting problems

If Drive Selector switch is properly aligned then a shift silonoid might be the problem.

SOURCE: transmission

At idle and the vehicle in nuetral check your transmission fluid level. If it is low your will need to add ford only transmission fluid which will come in a variety of manufactures. Don't use the multi vehicle fluid. You will then need to see where it is leaking from. If the fluid level is good look at the color of the fluid on the stick. if it is brown that means it is burnt and probably need a transmission.

My reverse lights and my brake lights will not work with the anti theft light on in the dash

These lights are all computer controlled ! Several modules involved DIM - dash integrated module , RIM - rear integrated module .They share information on serial data communication network . Class 2 an or GMLAN !
The rear fuse block supplies battery positive voltage through the REVERSE LAMP fuse to the coil and switch terminals of the reverse lamp relay. The DIM sends a power mode message to the RIM indicating that the ignition is in the ON position. When the driver of an automatic transmission equipped vehicle places the gear selector in the REVERSE position, the powertrain control module (PCM) sends a class 2 message to the RIM. The message indicates that the gear selector lever is in the REVERSE position. When the driver places a manual transmission equipped vehicle in reverse the reverse gear position switch mounted on the transmission closes. This provides a ground for the reverse gear position switch signal line, informing the RIM that the transmission is in reverse. For both automatic and manual transmission vehicles the RIM then grounds the control circuit of the reverse lamp relay . This energizes the reverse lamp relay, closing the switch side contacts and providing battery positive voltage to the backup lamp bulbs. The backup lamps are permanently grounded at G402. With both power and ground the backup lamp bulbs illuminate. Once the driver moves the shift lever out of the reverse position a message is send either by class 2 by the PCM or the reverse gear position switch opens causing the RIM to remove the ground from the reverse lamp relay control circuit. This opens the contacts in the relay turning OFF the backup lamps.
This is something best left to the dealer or a ASE certified repair shop . Need a factory or professional grade scan tool to diagnose an repair this . http://www.public.asu.edu/~pheanis/documents/VBI_CAN.pdf

1998 Suzuki Esteem 1.6 how to tell if you have a bad auto shifter relay car wont go forward or reverse when it heats up

2nd post, adds wont move.... Great.
you keep saying relay, why ask for non existent relay????
(dreaming of one?, sure.... dig that, its cheap, but...)
it sure is not the shiftlock (park) lock out relay... cuz you shifted, to drive. there is no TCC relay, (its fully electronic drive all 3 solenoids)
so there is no relay, sorry, have Full TCM schematic in hand
zero.

so get is serviced?
or check all fuses yet?
check the A/T fluid levels using the operators guide, (dont guess, or do this wrong)
check line pressure hot>? (i bet fails)
scan the PCM?/TCM?
why do you keep saying relay, with no photos to show?
Sometimes (bad deal) hot ATF fluid can leak internally, and cause a failure.

  1. check all fuses first.
  2. check A/T levels.?
  3. do full flush and fill and pray?
  4. scan it yet, yes, it must be scanned or thto get transmission codes.. all 1998 suz. any normal scan tool connected will show P07xx codes, so that is Next, scan it. (DIY, or get it scanned) best in all cases, SCAN while it FAILS !!!!
  5. the shifter lever moves to drive but the transmission cable does not at the BOX, 2 person checks. to do that.
  6. The FSM book covers. (all on car checks A/T) do so?

Why do the reverse lights remain lit when the ignition is switched on and the suv is running. This happens in all gears. I removed the center console to look for the reverse light switch, and it seem

You may be looking in the wrong place. It is on the transmission. The switch must be pretty wimpy because it doesn't directly drive the reverse lights, but connects to a reverse light relay in the smart junction box. The relay could be stuck. Unplug the two wire connector at the transmission then turn the key to RUN and see if the reverse lights are still on. If they are on then the relay is stuck and needs to be replaced. If they are not on then the switch in the transmission is bad.

2004 f 150 reverse lights don't come one

First of all, go to the central junction box (CJB) and check 10A fuse 14 which feeds power to the DTR sensor. Next, check 20A fuse 10 which feeeds power to the reverse relay. Check the reversing lamps for burnout. Start the engine and place the selector in R and check the reversing lamps. If they do not turn on, either the DTR or the reversing relay is defective

Backup light wont come on when in use, which fuse would I check

Owners manual should show it, and don't forget to look under hood in fuse/relay box on drivers side fender area. They are labeled on underside of cover. motor1258_5.jpgAlso just so you are aware, the possibility of neutral/reverse switch on transmission comes in to play if you have same as in picture showing the switch on transmission. Sometimes if you have someone stand behind and watch for back-up light to flicker as you move shifter slowly through gears will help as well. When switch gets faulty the back-up lights may come on when shifter not quite in reverse, so try moving it slightly to see if they flicker on/off anywhere in the area of reverse. Foot on the brake of course.

My bmw 2002 z3 reverse lights wont come on. Its not the bulbs. What could it be?

There is nominally a fuse, relay, and a switch associated with your reverse lights. Possible repair listed from 'easy to hard' by escalation

easy:
disconnect your negative battery cable, check the fuse block. It should be a 20A fuse(#F203). Some models use a 10A fuse(#F26). Replace as needed
Reconnect the battery, test.
if that doesn't work...

moderate.
have already checked the fuse, check to see if you have a "reversing light relay" (K6325) (My 2001 z3 does not) If present, disconnect negative battery cable and replace the entire relay. It is not worth trying to refurbish them.
Reconnect the battery, test.
if that doesn't work...

hard...
If both the fuse and relay are in good order, it is likely a fault in your wiring or the "reversing light switch"(S8511)

On the manual transmission:
The switch is located on the left of the gertrag transmission
The switch is located on the right of the ZF transmission

unscrew the switch from the transmission
install the new switch, tighten to 15 ft-lbs torque

On the automatic transmission:
If replacing the fuse and relay did not work there is an issue with your transmission range switch, various shift solenoids, shift linkage, etc. I highly recommend a dealer or qualified facility's examination.

I hope this helped!

My transmission wont change gears its an automatic 2002

Ok now heres the question???? Will gear shift move at all? I mean can you actually get it into drive or reverse? If you cant move the shifter than it is most likely the brake switch located at the top of the brake pedal. They have been know for this problem. But if you can move shifter and just wont go then your probably looking at linkage problem or transmission problem.

Transmission

if you have your foot on the brake and it will not move, then i would focus on the transmission safety switch. trans has to sense foot pressure on the brake before allowing you to move the stick from park to any position (reverse, drive, etc).
