Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

Air bags for the suspension in my 2006 Envoy XL Denali has been replaced and it still doesn't lift up. What's wrong?

The Mechanic I took it to changed the airbags in the air suspension but it still didn't lift. He changed the right sensor and it still didn't lift. He checked the compressor and said it was working just fine. What on earth is wrong now?

What does air suspension consist of

Air actuators (air chambers) on each corner of the vehicle, a compressor to inflate the actuators, ride height sensors and a control ecu to control the function. That's a basic overview, hope it helps

Suspension deflates in cold weather

air compressors do not operate below 28 degrees you have to get them warm first I assume that your compressor is under your hood as long as you allow your truck to get cold or keep the air suspension your going to have this problem

How long should it take for the self leveling rear suspension in a 2005 GMC Envoy XL Denali Edition to almost go empty. If i let the car sit overnight most of the air is gone and the rear is low, however...

The air suspension system should stay up for several days without going completely down, which probably means that you have a small leak which is quite common even on relatively new air bags or struts.

A general rule of thumb is that if the compressor isn't kicking on several times during a drive then they are good to go. The air bags are a pain to change, so most people don't change them until they are really bad.

How to remove rear suspension airbags on 2006 gmc envoy denali

they are bolted in a not to hard to remove once the air is drained from them however you can not drive it without the air bags. It will bounce way to much to control the truck.

Removing rear air suspension on GMC Envoy

Just behind right rear tire up in the wheel well. Air inlet is inside right rear quarter near the accessory inflator. Compressor runs 3 lines one for the accessory inflator and one for each air bag.
THere are also 2 sensors, one on each trailing arm that senses load and then raises and lowers accordingly.
