I don't know a whole lot about cars or how they work. I have had a problem with my car transmission before and my husband tried to fix it him self. It didn't work out very well so we just took it into a repair shop. http://www.interstatetransmission.net

I was getting ready to change my transmission based off a few things I had read an article about safety and decided I needed to wear safety gear. I put on my steel toed shoes which probably ended up saving my toes. Since I dropped some heavy tools on them. My advice would be to wear safety gear while you are doing this. http://www.precisetransmission.com/en/fa...

I haven't had any good experience trying to fix my cars problems myself. Now I am having transmission problems and I know that I can't fix that. I am going to have to call someone who can repair my transmission for me. I bet that would probably work out a lot better for you too. http://www.northgatetransmissions.com/automatic-transmission

Take the vehicle to a specialist Auto-Trans mechanic. Auto trans are not for novice mechanics to try and repair.

Two things could be defective.

Reverse servo, or reverse band...

Both could be repaired by average mechanical mind, but the cause may not be fixed. Almost anytime there is a problem with an automatic transmission, requiring a major part, it should get a compete rebuild or your problem may reoccur...

Your transmission needs repair. Since repairing transmission is not an easy job, ask first the service
center their repair cost, and compare it a new one.
If the repair cost is just 30 to 35% of buying a new one,
Then you may consider the repairing it. Otherwise, your
best option is buying a new one.

Why Is My Automatic Transmission Slipping? If you have an automatic transmission and it "slips" while you are driving it-that is, the car engine revs without the power going to the wheels-the most common cause (though not the only possible cause) is low transmission fluid. If the slipping is caused by low fluid, it will get worse as the transmission gets hotter.
Why Is My Manual Transmission Slipping? A standard ("manual") transmission uses fluid too, but leaks aren't a common issue; a standard transmission could lose all its fluid and never slip at all, though eventually it would lock up while driving down the road. If you have a standard transmission, and it's slipping-the engine revs but it doesn't transmit power to the wheels-the problem is usually in the clutch.
Further down in the article I discuss how to diagnose this problem.

I have a 91 honda accord with an automatic trans. & when i shift into reverse it refuses to engage & makes a high pitch gear slipping grinding sound ! NOT GOOD ! ,I just replaced the transmission con

Definitely not good. The transmission is slipping internally due to worn gears and clutch packs. It will have to come out for rebuilding, IMO. Have a transmission shop check it out.
Good luck.

2004 ram3500 transmission slippage when warm

Hi, transmission slipping normally does not occur when the transmission is warm, as warm temperatures favor proper working of the automatic transmission systems. Nonetheless, if problems such as, broken transmission bands, gears or torque conversion already exist, then the transmission might slip even in warm temperatures. Another situation may arise, if the fluid suffers from contraction in cold weather and gradually the weather warms up sufficiently, to expand the internal parts and fluids. Then due to cold weather, a small transmission problem might occur. However, the problem may be too small to affect the vehicle. However, warm weather cannot be directly linked to transmission slipping.

What does it mean when an automatic transmission slips gears?

hello. Here are some of the transmission slipping signs you should be looking for:
  • A delay of more than a second in shifting from the neutral to drive or reverse gear, could mean that there is a problem with the transmission. If on changing from a neutral or park position to the drive or reverse gear, the car does not immediately catch the gear and move forward or backward, then it could mean a problem in the transmission.
  • If you change gears, and you hear a sudden clunk or sudden jolt or shudder, then the shifting is not smooth and there could be a problem with the gearbox.
  • If the engine rpm keeps increasing but there is no increase in the speed, then it could be a sign of the transmission slipping.
  • Another one of the transmission slipping signs is oil or automatic transmission fluid (ATF) leakage. This could damage the transmission.
  • If your car has suddenly started sounding noisy, then it could also be because of a problem in the gearbox.
  • Most automatic transmission systems, nowadays, have a check engine light or an OD light, which flashes if there is a problem with the engine. You will need a code reader to diagnose the problem by reading the code.

Automatic trans slips 92 ford explorer

I would have the transmission check if you plan on keeping the car a long time. The lucas oil is an additive for the oil. The additive is making the fluid a little heavier and tricking the soleniods or clutch and bands with a different pressures.

This is a temporary fix. The transmission over time is going to start to slip more and more.
