Question about Lincoln Town Car

1 Answer

2000 Lincoln Towncar. Keypad on door will not unlock doors. Interior lights do come on. The last two keys pushed simultaneously will occasionally lock the doors. I am using the code printed on a sticker in the trunk that used to work just fine. It quit working around the time the weather was poor and battery went dead. New battery now.

The driver door module (DDM) is connected on the standard corporate protocol (SCP) communication network. The DDM controls many functions including power windows, power door locks and remote keyless entry. The DDM also communicates with the driver seat module (DSM) to control the power mirror and seat memory functions.
Do you know anything about automotive electronic control modules ?
The driver door module (DDM) receives inputs from the digital transmission range (DTR) sensor, ignition switch, seat switch, window/door lock switches, lighting control module (LCM), keyless entry keypad switch and remote transmitter. The DDM outputs consists of keyless entry keypad switch illumination, power door lock actuators, luggage compartment release solenoid, horn relay, and lighting control module (LCM).
Best thing to do would be to have a factory scan tool hooked up to check for DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes . That should be the first step if it's not programming the code.

  • The doors do not lock/unlock using the keyless entry keypad
  • Keypad.
  • Circuitry.
  • Driver door module (DDM).
  • GO to Pinpoint Test L .

Check little finger like/half moon part of latch on lid & see if it comes across, and locks in. Use a screwdriver or something. Then turn key & see if it snaps back. See what you find & get back to us. Don't be afraid to lubricate all that in there while your at it.

SOURCE: 03 Lincoln Towncar trunk malfunction

Sounds like the lift drive assembly is screwed up if it falls shut when trying to open it. Haven't worked on these so they may have a safety feature that drops the trunk if it hits something. Is some blocking the hinges travel as it opens?

Door key system won't work and i locked my keys in my car. what can i do without calling locksmith

you can use the old method of a coat hanger and move it to either pull on the interior handle to open the door or push on the door lock button to unlock.sometimes a police officer can unlock it for you if they are not on a call as a public service, every place is different though.if you have a second key then you can get it to open the door.you can also call a shop to do a service call to unlock the car this will cost you a service call fee.if you have something like roadside assistance(CAA or such)they can do this also.the last thing is you can break a window and send a claim to your insurance company depending on your deductible.

After locking my car, the interior lights dim and go out as usual and then come back on and the doors will keep locking themselves.

The problem is in the keypad assembly. It causes the interior lights to come on and off and can drain the battery. This also causes the doors to lock and unlock without driver input. The keypads on this model usually go out if someone is playing with it or trying to discover the unlock combination. If you don't need to use the keypad for entry or access to the trunk you can disconnect the keypad and you won't experience the above mentioned problems.

How do you reprogram the keyless door lock code?

  1. Enter the five digit permanent entry code into keyless entry keypad.
  2. Within five seconds of pressing last button of permanent code, press the 1/2 button within five seconds of pressing the last button of the permanent code. (Factory code found on the module).
  3. Enter any alternate five digit code within five seconds of pressing 1/2 button.
    • Enter a sixth digit as follows to indicate operator's memory seat setting to be set by alternate code: 9/0-- no memory recall
      1/2-- memory seat position 1
      314-- memory seat position 2
      5/6-- memory seat position 3
    • After successful programming, the doors will signal by locking and then unlocking.

The Keyless Entry Module is located inside the drivers side door.

Ford F150 Pickup 2005 power doors unlock but will not lock

I had almost the identical problem on my 2005 F150 FX4 Extended cab last weekend. The power door locks would not lock using the keypad, remotes, or door buttons. Almost all other functions worked correctly. The doors unlocked, the radio delay functioned, and the interior lights dimmed. When I used the remote the horn would beep twice indicating that a door was open even there was no message on the message center that a door was open. When I used the keypad or remote, I could hear a soft click from behind the seat. I think it was coming from the body security module or body security module - whatever Ford is calling it this year. I pulled the fuse for the Power Door Locks(BSM). As I removed it, I heard a soft click - sort of like a relay resetting. It may have come from the VSM/BSM. It may have possibly been a stuck actuator releasing. I don't think so. It wasn't that load. In any case, everything is functioning correctly now.
