Question about 1997 Ford F150 Regular Cab

1 Answer

1997 f150 truck starts but doesnt stay running, only if you

Truck starts but doesnt stay running, only if you keep foot on gas pedal. As soon as you take foot off the rpm drops off rapidly to almost nothing and quits. If you double pedal the truck to keep rpm up to drive, and after it warms up, the truck trys to surge in rpm a couple of times upto about a 1000 rpm before finally just stalling out because of about 300 rpm. I tried resetting the computer by disconnecting battery, I also removed air filter to inspect. If I go out now to start, it will start, but just doesnt keep running because of the rpm not staying high enough when idling.

It starts and will only stay running if I keep my foot on the gas. As soon as I let off the car dies.

sounds like idle control valve. allows air to get into the motor if the throttle body is closed. aka your foot off the gas pedal. sometimes you can try to clean them, but most times that doesn't work.

Jeep liberty will not stay cranked

if it starts and immediately stalls than try stepping on the gas as soon as it starts. If you can keep it running with your foot on the gas pedal than replace the idle control motor. It is located on the back side of the throttle body on the drivers side. it should have a flat four wire connector and be held in place by two screw.

Jeep won't start

what generally happens with jeeps. is the idle air control valve loses memory of its idle position. try starting the vehicle with your foot slightly on the gas pedal. if it starts your going to have to keep it running by keeping your foot on the gas until it relearns its position and runs by itself. also there is a possibility that one of the modules locked up. if my first suggestion doesnt work then disconnect the negative batt cable for 30 seconds reconnect and then try to start it
