Question about 2006 Honda Odyssey
While I agree that Mobile1 is the best synthetic, it is a complete waste of your money to buy the synthetic if you're going to change the oil every 5k miles, unless you are driving in the most extreme conditions (Mojave desert, maybe?). Dino oil will go 5k miles before needing to be replaced in most driving conditions. With Mobile1, or any decent synthetic, you can easily go 7500+ miles. I actually go 15k between oil changes in my car with Mobile1, just checking levels periodically to see if I need a top-off (never have, but going that long was scary at fist because I grew up with the 3k mile mantra). Anyway, if you're going to spend your money on the synthetic, get your dollars worth out of it and go 15,000 miles between oil changes.
I remember reading a study performed by Mobile back when they first came out with full synthetic, they took a brand new engine, filled it with Mobile1 and ran it to the equivalent of 150,000 miles without ever changing the oil. There was no significant wear to the engine parts after the 150,000 miles. Now, this was a controlled experiment produced by the people who wanted to sell you the oil, so I would by no means suggest going 150,000 miles on one oil change, but even in the most perfect conditions, 150,000 miles is impressive.
