It isnt that hard actually

disconect positive battery terminal. and feel the tension on the laternator belt. you will need to bring it back to this tension.

1.) loosen bolts holding alternator in place (LOOK AT THE BELT TO REMEMBER HOW IT GOES, BEST NOT REMOVE THE BELT.)

2.) loosen bolts holding wires to alternator and connect wires to new alternator

3.) Place alternator in engine, replace bolts but dont tighten

4.) put belt in place, it will be slack, use your tire iron or a piece of pipe or wood to pry the alternator back, to bring tension on the belt. You pry the alternator to pull the belt as TIGHT AS POSSIBLE. while holding strain, on it, tighten the bolts.

SOURCE: How to replace ABS Sensor

They're a pain because they press into the hub. Some of them have a retaining bolt, others don't. The problem is that heat in the hub, from rolling friction in the wheel bearing and brake system heat transfer causes them to seize in place. The only way I've been able to remove them is to remove the end axle bolt that holds the axle in place, pivot the upright to gain access to the inside of the upright from behind, and tap the sensor out. You have to be careful not to damage it, and it helps a lot to spray some PB Blaster or penetrating oil in there to help loosen things up. If you try to pry or lever it out from the wire end of the sensor, you WILL destroy it.

I would trust them but make sure it is just not in need of some kind of cleaning.

SOURCE: 2000 VW passat timing belt replacement

80 000miles(120 000km) is recomended by the dealer but it's safer at 40 000miles(60 000km) its safer for town driving and cold conditions considering the diffirence between a cambelt change and a replacemnet engine and downtime.

I have a 98 vw passat glx. the button which opens the fuel pump door does not seem to work. i have to press it about 20 times before the door opens. any solutions???

chances are the spring that opens the flap is weak, just replace the spring.if it gets stuck shut pull away the carpet/trim from inside the trunk to get to the flap wire.

I need to replace the alternator on my 2003 VW passat 6cyl. I took it to a shop that said that VW is there specialty. The price for the labor and alternator almost did me in. just trying to see if I was...

prices of the alternators on line range any where from $150 to$ 380
Labor wise shouldn't take more than 2hr to R&R remove and replace This is a ball park figure

2000 VW Passat water in alternator battery light on

If you can get it to a parts store most will preform a free alternator test. The water may have shorted out a diode in the alternator. So it should be tested.

My vw 2000 1.8t passat has trouble idling. Anyone?

It "might" be your throttle position sensor, look for some electronic's going into your or near your throttle body and clean them with disc brake cleaner, something that won't leave a film on it.
This was the problem with my chevy, I know it not the same car but it's worth a try, cheaper that replacing it.

It doesn't start.

Well if your alternator light is on. seems like you need a new alternator. if it has crapped out it would be the reason why youre car doesnt start. its not a terribly hard fix. but i would say that is probably the reason why it wont start.
