Not much really. I did my son's on the road in 20 degree weather. Remove the fan nut 1.250" wrench...left handed thread with the special tool. Remove fan, and shroud at the same time. Remove belly pan so you can drain the radiator. 16mm socket and 1/2 socket wrench to move the idler pulley tensioner. You move it not remove it. You move it enough to release serpentine tension. Remove belt. and 4 bolts holding the water pump pulley. Now the water pump is exposed. remove the bolts or nuts holding it in. go get some 6mm x 30mm hex bolts and use them to pry out evenly the water pump. That's it. reassemble, don't forget the o-ring.

I have a 2008 bmw 528i. Would like to know ,where is the fuel pump relay located??

From Chet Vlaun: "The fuel pump relay is up behind the glove compartment. You have to remove the glove box and drop down the holder with the relay. The fuel pump relay is the green one. I think the early e39 have the fuel pump relay 52 or 54 in the trunk on the passenger side over the battery. It is marked on the card at the fuse panel."

You need the special tool that will hold the water pump pulley and a 32mm open ended wrench. Ebay has the set for around $20.
The thread is the opposite than normal too!
Easy to take it all off with the right tools. 15 minutes max.

100000 mile service checks/replacement parts on a 2000 BMW 528i

If your talking about what would a dealership change, it generally consists of a tune up, including spark plugs, plug wires, air filter, oil change, pcv valve, and fuel filter. Thats also usually when they want to replace the timing belts. There may be one or two other things specific to BMW, but generally thats what you can expect.

If you've never replaced the timing belt or chain,That would be my first thing I'd check is the Timing belt or chai, just aline the timing marks on crankshaft and then look at the position on the distributor to see if it's pointed in the #1 firing position .

I've got a 1997 BMW 528i and the windshield washer pump won't work. I checked at the connector and I've got a continuous 9v even with the ignition off. Is there a relay that's potentially shorted? If so,...

CHECK TO SEE IF THE PUMP IS RUNNING. IF SO AND NO WATER, REMOVE THE LINE(S) COMING OUT FROM THE PUMP AND BLOW GENTLY THROUGH THEM TO UNPLUG THEM. SOMETIMES DIRT SETTLES IN THE BOTTOM OF THE WATER TANK AND PLUGS THE LINES SO NOW WATER CAN FLOW. GENTLY CAUSE A FLOW IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION TO DISLODGE THE DIRT IN THE MOTOR PUMP.
