The alternator will not die in one day unless there is a direct short causing diode or coil winding failure which would give signs of smell, melted wires. Disconnect battery and give full charge. what year is this? while vehicle is running you should be able to briefly disconnect positive battery post connection and vehicle will still run if alternator is good. For a new battery to die in one day, one of two things i think has happened. Either the batt is faulty from supplier,( not likely but i have seen it ) or there is a direct draw or grounding taking place whether its direct in the starter selonoid or a direct draw through accessories. Are you sure all switches are off ? Push switches (on interior lights) nothing like dome lights, delayed lights are staying on! Does vehicle start hard like it almost needs a jump. If it has to be (and it takes time). to find out what is drawing the power ( i am old school) disconnect positive power source on batt. 2) disconnect ignition power source on starter. 3) connect pos batt wire to starter, 4) touch positive cable to positive batt post and look for spark or contact. if this reacts then selonoid or starter motor is shorted drawing the current. Or if you have volt meter and know how to use it, this is good to. If checks good then hook ignition connection back on starter.(disconnect pos terminal on batt prior to re-connect) I think the battery is having the life sucked out of it by a short in the system ( A DRAW ) this could be a quick find or fix or this could take days to track down. alot of variables here to try to explain. but i would seek into the starter first as usually this drains the battery quickly .

I suggest O'Reilly's checked more than your mechanic did. Just because he says it is chrging does not mean he checked the diodes, which if bad allow the battery to drain whenever the vehicle is not running. Replace alternator.

If battery and alternator are good is starter solenoid pulling in? it may be that whilst you have a new battery it may require charging new doesn't mean fully charged, batt may have been on shelf for awhile

check the charge at the alternator output first with the ground on the alternator, then ground at the battery my guess is there is a faulty ground from the alt to either engine block or body

Why would my battery light stay on my 2002 escape

The light indicates that the battery is receiving insufficient charge voltage from the alternator. Take the car to an autoparts store and have the alternator output checked. Most parts stores will do the test for free. Sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped. Best wishes.

Battery won't hold charge

My 2002 Ford2.gif Escape had a similar issue later in 2006. My alternator died and I needed replacement. After replacing, the light would come on and off at times. When everything running (i.e. radio2.gif, air conditioner, driving lights) and tocuh electric windows up the power would lower and sometimes battery light on dashboard would come up. Original mechanic could find out what was going on and I lived for 2-3 years with it.

This past August 2009 after a long trip (i.e. 8 hours or so) my battery died. Brought to a auto parts place and they determined it was the baterry and the alternator. Since I was back on my home town I went to a good friend that is a mechanic and he fixed it for real.

He had a similar issue with three different Escapes coming back with alternator or baterry or both death. He found out that Ford has an official report for Escapes that when this happens the electric fan behind the radiator are short circuiting, affect direclty the baterry and alternator killing them, and needs replacement.

Try this and may work for you.

Car died and battery light remains on even with new battery

Remove alternator and take to a parts store they can test for free. That is most likely the problem.

Charging problem.. Wont charge battery

The instructions for installing a new alternator usually read to fully charge the battery (12.3 - 12.8 volt range). Otherwise, the alternator will be damaged when it initializes. I have seen some extreme damage result from installing a new alternator with a low-charge battery. The torque required to turn an alternator when damaged in this scenario is unbelieveable!
