Some of these have had problems with the dash assembly causing alot of problems with gauges and lights and speedometers.if there are no codes in the computer and weren`t any before you replaced the vss sensors then you spent money you didn`t need to.

My car is doing the same exact thing, so the problems is in the dash? The wires or fuses? not sure what to do?

the problem is usually the instrument cluster itself as it is an electronic/electrical sealed have two choices.replace the cluster or find a company that can check it out and repair the unit.the fuses are good or the other parts of the cluster would not be working.the wiring in the dash itself have very little problems so few i`ve not heard any.

My neon is doing the same thing the speedo is jump and the gas gauge acts up too, I was told to replace the VSS switches to fix, is there maybe a more detailed solution other than replace the whole gauge cluster? I also have been having difficulties with my transmission is that a completely separate issue?

Speedometer fuse location

For what make ,model and year vehicle . Most vehicles do not have a fuse just for the speedometer ,has fuse for the whole insturment cluster . Gauge could be bad . GM vehicles had bad stepper motors that drive the gauges . 2003 to 2006 . VSS - vehicle speed sensor located on the transmission on most make vehicles ,if bad would set a DTC'- diagnostic trouble code . VSS -is most likely a input to the PCM - powertrain control module , beside setting a code vehicle would not shift right , engine would not run right either .

Replaced input and output speed sensors for erratic speedometer. Now the speedometer remains at 0. Anyone have a suggestion on what else could be wrong?

input and out put speed sensors tell the TCM and the ECM the difference between engine rpms and transmission input roms so that the correct gear ratio can be selected
A speedo sensor reads the out put shaft (drive line ) shaft and refers to road speed for speed and odometer readings and to calculate the fuel consumption rate
it is possible that you have replaced the wrong sensor
Talk with an accredited transmission specialist shop and have the problem diagnosed

2002 dodge neon wont shift outta first and speedometer wont work ,already replaced input and output sensors

Maybe the speedometer connection at the transmission might be interfering with the shift lever at the transmission. Not sure if this would apply to the 2002 Neon but on some older model cars I believe it could happen. Just a thought.

Won't shift out of 1st. I have already replaced the input and output speed sensors as well as the shift solenoid. Still wont shift out of 1st and speedometer still wont work but tack does.

your input output speed sensors check voltage at sensor check plug see if you have voted and ground and put more than likely there's no voltage or no gtound

1999 Dodge Neon, speedometer reading only when it wants, how do i fix this

The Variable Speed Sensor (VSS) has failed. You will have to get it replaced. Usually located on the transmission. The only way to fix the speedometer is to replace the sensor.

Speedometer doesn't work on dodge ram 1500, reading codes 950 and 999

First off you need to determine if it's the speedometer head or the (vss) vehicle speed sensor,
First check the speedometer by holding in the trip reset button and turn the ignition switch to run, continue to hold the trip button for 10 seconds, and the release, this will run a diagnostic on all the dash lights and gauges,The speedometer will jump up a 1/4 of the way then half,3/4 and then 100% of the needle movement,If all is good there then check the vehicle speed sensor which is located in the top of the axle housing,if you have a scan tool that displays engine data it will show vehicle speed,if you get 0 for speed while driving then replace the (vss) sensor by unplugging the wire harness, remove the 10mm nut in the metal cover and pull the sensor straight up and out, install in reverse order,I would apply a small amount of silicon around the sensor before install to insure there will be no leaks.
After1998 all dodge rams vss are in the rear axle housing.

I have a 1997 dodge neon and the speedometer does not work

Need to access the PCM with a scan tool and see if the vehicle speed sensor is still working. If it is, the problem is most likely in the instrument cluster and a junkyard part would be a good solution. If you have no VSS operation, that's your problem.

2003 dodge neon speedometer not working and shows that the alternator is not charging.

test the alt but my best bet replaceing the cluster all neons are cold solderd and come loose causing the problem to make dash gauges to intermit work and also quit working all together
