I would expect for that to be the rev limiter. This is a protection against the engine coming apart when REXING the engine too high without a load. I hope this video helps.

Joe

Hi, Bikerdad1368 and the usual suspects are:
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Discharged battery, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Bank angle sensor tripped and ignition/light key switch not cycled to the "OFF" position and then back to the "ON" position.
5. Faulty starter button/switch.
6. Faulty jiffy stand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
7. Security alarm needs a reset.
8. Starter control circuit, relay, or solenoid faulty.
9. Electric starter shaft pinion gear is not engaging or over-running starter clutch slipping.

I am wondering where to line up the coils on the flywheel when the engine is at TDC on the horizontal cylinder. I called ferracci and they said if I sent MY MOTOR to them they could help me. Otherwise they couldn't tell me. My question is what to I line my coil pickups to on the flywheel where are the magnetic pickup on the flywheel and the coil pickups lining up? Thanks! It sounds as if you have not installed the flywheel yet. I installed a lightweight Nichols Flywheel on a 2000 Monster 750 earlier this year. I have sense sold that bike and gave the paperwork instruction away with it. From the picture you have supplied they look exactly the same from what I remember. Again, this is working off memory. There is only one possible way for the flywheel itself to fit into the bike. There is an alignment peg (for a lack of a better name) that aligns the flywheel with the electrode. The instructions are clear about not moving or changing the electrode spacing, location or existing relationship. Long story short, it was pretty much plug and play and I did not have to do anything with TDC. I understand it is a different brand, and it might be different, but...... By the way, I loved the flywheel upgrade.,,,

Hi, James it should be noted that in order to "PROPERLY" diagnosis any electric starter issue it is "IMPERATIVE" that you begin with a fully charged battery 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a proper load test, and the usual suspects are:
1. Battery terminals have loose or corroded connections.
2. Battery cables faulty due corroded or broken internal wiring at the cable connector especially the "NEGATIVE" cable which needs to be checked at "BOTH" ends.
3. Battery voltage, 12.5 volts or better,to the main circuit breaker to the ignition switch to the security/ignition fuse to the TSM/TSSM module to the engine stop/run switch to the starter button to the starter relay to the green wire that connects to the starter solenoid has dropped more than 1/2 volt.
4. With a voltmeter connected to the battery, the ignition switch in the on position, the kill switch in the run position, the starter button depressed, starter engagement should not bring voltage below 8-9 volts.
If a lower voltage is produced a proper battery load test should be performed with a load tester to validate battery integrity or battery replacement.
5. Faulty starter relay, check continuity.
6. Faulty starter solenoid, check contact plate and shoes for excessive electrical erosion/etching, refurbish as necessary or invert contact plate and use the virgin backside. Check contact shoes for being loose. Replace solenoid if the negative function is still a final outcome.
7. Faulty starter, bench test starter with a 12-volt battery if negative function check, decontaminate and undercut armature commutator segments as necessary, check segments with an ohm-meter probe each one and the segment next to it for shorts. Have the armature tested with a growler and field coils, and brush plate with an ohm-meter for opens, shorts or grounds. Replace brushes if less than .438" It is generally cheaper to overhaul/refurbish a starter motor than buy a new one.

Clearance issues aside, you need the proper mounts. If they make them, they will work, aside from tank clearance issues. If they don't make the proper kit, just don't do it. Handlebars are not something to experiment with when you're traveling down the highway at 60+ mph. Ever had a simple grip come off? Not fun, trust me.

to check to see if its an electrical problem it the starter button it self find the starter relay take a wrench or a screw driver and make contact between the 2 copper posts that are sticking out from the relay if it turns over than you will know that it is the push button if it doesn't turn over than you know that its the starter. The turn- bank sensor may think you have wrecked or just tipped over the bike. It may need to be replaced. Have you had to lay it down lately? Usually they reset after being turned on again after a lay down. It might not be resetting. Good Luck with that one.

Turn the lights on and check. If the lights works, then the battery is fine. More likely faulty coil or a broken connection.

You can check the coil. Connect a wire to the positive side of the battery. Touch the wire on the positive side of the coil. When you RELEASE the wire, you should get a spark.
