Frigidaire FER311FS Electric Dryer - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

Hi

I would assume that the heating element has burnt out.
These are often not expensive to buy and fairly easy to replace

oh oh sounds like a bad motor with burned windings? let me guess it shuts down after about 20-30 minutes?

Good Afternoon Friend, that's a great question!

I see that your post is listed on Frigidaire dryer, FER311FS. I show that the thermal fuse of your dryer is located on the right side rear wall under the top. Hope this helpful! Should I be of any additional assistance, please feel free to reconnect.

Good Morning Tabitha,

I see that you are looking to see how hot your Frigidaire dryer, model# FER311FS, actually gets, due to you not having temperature controls on your particular model. Being that you have just the timed dry cycle, it provides up to 100 minutes of drying time at high heat for regular and permanent press items. When drying permanent press items, turn the cycle selector to 40-50 minutes. This is the average time needed to dry most loads of permanent press items. The load tumbles without heat during the last 10 minutes of the Timed Dry cycle. Use this setting to refresh clothing, pillows or blankets or to dust draperies. Heat-sensitive items such as plastics, foam rubber or similarly textured rubber-like materials or items containing feathers or down should be dried only with this setting. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

I would have a tech come to your home and examine the machine. You have a short somewhere in the circuit.

you may have a shorted winding in the motor. check that no object is in the blower fan and that you can move the fan freely. if that is the case winding is bad. if fan moves hard the motor bearings bad, in ether case replace the motor.

good luck to you.

I would say the dryer has a failed central ball bearing. You can say it by turning the drum manually, with the belt not installed and hearing for the tipical "grainy" sound of the rusted or stucked bearing.

Often a dryer heating element burns out, but doesn't trip the circuit breaker or blow a fuse. The heating element is simply a long coil of special wire. You can check it for continuity with an ohm meter. No continuity means the element is bad and you need to replace it--electric heating elements aren't repairable.
On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse--which is about an inch long--is usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing. If the fuse has blown, you need to replace it. (You can't re-set it.)
There is a cover on the upper left on the back that houses the "Thermal Limiter"that you need to check for continuity with a multimeter. IF it's bad, replace with this part. Next, there is a thermostat on the rear heater housing that need to be checked for continuity and replaced if bad with this part. Then, check the heating element for continuity and replace if bad with this part.
Please let me know what you find. richroth_32.gif

Remove power. Pry in and upwards in the space between the top and front panel a couple inches in from the corners to release the two clips. Hinge the top panel back. Disconnct wiring. Remove the screws holding the front panel located inside near the front corners. Pull back, then lift front panel off the lower clips. If the belt isnt broken remove rear panel and run it off the pulleys. Lift upwards on the rear of the drum to pull it out of the socket. It may take some force! Assemble in reverse order and place belt on pulleys through the rear panel opening

If you glides were worn out then your center bearing was probably near death too. Did you remove the drum and check it? I would say if you did remove the drum maybe you did not place it back in the cradle and now the drum is rubbing the heater coils. Better take back apart and give it a looksee.

This could have one of several things wrong...first, make sure your getting 220 at dryer..just because its running does not mean its getting proper voltage...turn breaker off and then back on and recheck dryer for heat...if you have meter to check this would be helpful...

if your getting proper voltage then you could have anything from broken wire to bad safty thermostat, to a bad heater, bad timer, bad motor switch, there are lots of things to keep this from drying.most common is heater or safety thermostat..

Frigidaire... | Answered on Nov 28, 2010 | 129 views

Check the continuity of the high-limit thermostat on the heater housing and the thermal fuse/cut-off on the blower housing including the resistance of the heating element. These comprises the heating circuit and a failure in any of them results in the dryer not heating.
