Your battery may be completely discharged. Plug it to the power cord of the charger, wait 10 mins and try again.
If this doesn't help, you may want to try resetting the BIOS: unplug the charger cord, remove the rechargeable battery and the BIOS battery and wait 10 minutes. Then put everything back and try again

In Windows XP, go to:

Start -> Control Panel -> Sounds & Audio Devices -> Audio
Ensure that your sound card, and not a USB device, is selected for audio output as the default device.

In Windows Vista/7:

Start -> Control Panel -> Sound
Ensure that 'speakers' is selected as the default device.

Alternatively, if the beeps are coming from the computer case itself, please clarify as such with a follow up response.

my laptop lenovo 500 cant find any networks, have done the usual searches and checks but to no avail. any ideas

Lenovo 3000 N500... | Answered on Mar 11, 2010

It probably might be a loose 'memory' issue. I would suggest you to take the laptop to the Lenovo Service center and if the issue is same as I suspected they should fix this in just 5 minutes and might not even charge you anything.

Please do not take the laptop to any other service center other than the Authorized one.

As it is a USB flash memory, on the sides or on the back or on the front of the machine you will have a usb port where the connector of the stick will fit into.

After that your computer it notice it and it should open up on your computer monitor.

How to back up, basically, the simplest way is to take a copy of any file that you want to back up, and save it into the flash drive.

To get on to the flash drive, you will have to open my computer or the computer icon from either your desktop or from the start menu.

from there you should find a removeable storage device or sandisk or cruzer, inside it, you may see a folder or two, just right click anywhere in that folder and select paste, the file is then copied to the stick. (you may first have to right click on the original file and select copy and then paste in the folder)

You should have a Power Cord. Plug it in for few minutes, say 5 minutes and then if it would be Fixed. If yes, Battery is at Fault.

If Problem still remains, let me know few more details :-

1. Do you see Fan running?
2. How old is the Machine?
3. Any previous repair?
4. If required, would you be able to Dissemble notebook?
5. Do you have tools?

Let me know, so that we could proceed.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Take a can of air and blow some air onto the laser gently to make sure no dust or dirt is affecting it.

Then go into the BIOS and make sure the cd-rom is the first boot device. Then put your operating system cd into the drive and "press any key" when that message comes up so the system can boot up off of the cd.

If after setting the cd-rom as the 1st boot device you can't get the laptop to boot up off of the OS cd then that means the cd-rom is bad and would need to be replaced. When you boot up off of the cd-rom your in DOS and any viruses or worms wouldn't affect it.
