Air may flow through the unit if you don't have a vapour barrier wrapped around the electrical box in a ceiling with an attic above. The smoke detector may look smoky and it may have come from cooking grease in the air. This may foul the smoke detector. All smoke detectors have a piece of radioactive americium-241 that creates ions in an ionic chamber. This chamber has to be pristine. That is why smoke detectors have a replacement date on them. It may be time to get another one. Some kits come with a cardboard baffle to stop so much air sucking through the unit.

Be sure you are using a well known brand battery. The store brands, in my my opinion generally are not quite up to par. Try this and see if the chirp will stop. Thanks for asking me.

I am having problems seeing if you have any more data besides "smoke alarm keeps chirping." so I will ask; have you tried changing the battery?

A common thing that I find is a plug in CO detector is the source of the beeping. GL Happy hunting. 2ae484aa-ffeb-439f-9235-ddd4f7b20db5.jpg

According to the Kidde website, this unit was discontinued in 2010. If the unit is more than 10 years old it must be replaced per NFPA 72 (assuming you live in the US)

You should check all the units when this occurs (this is an actual alarm sound) to see if one of them is different than the rest, either by flashing an led, turning on a red led, etc. The one that is different is the one with the problem; replace it. If your units are more than 10 years old you need to replace all of them by code (NFPA 72), just so you know. Good luck!

When you say you opened it, what do you mean? The unit should come off the trim ring and expose the bottom which I believe is where the battery is located. Just so you know, if the unit is more than 10 years old the entire unit must be replaced per NFPA 72.

The 1275 does have a battery backup according to the manual on the Kidde website. Try this URL to get a copy of the guide:

Usually indicative of low battery. To locate the device, try using a piece of tape to cover the sound port. You'll know you've found the right one when the sound level changes. Don't know, but I'd bet there's more than one chirping as well.

Usually it's just a matter of replacing the battery. Replace the unit if it's more than 10 years old (mandatory per NFPA 72) or if replacing the battery does not work.

Most smoke detecotrs have a limited lifespan of 5-10 years. On the underside of the detectors should be a sticker with installed dated or replace by date. If changing the batteries doesn't stop the chirping it is most like time to replace the detector. If you check the manufacturer website they will give you a life expectancy for your detector.

Better to either change the battery, or remove the old battery completely,
