Unfortunately, Samsung tech support was accurate. Most universal remotes (and the portion of the remote programming to control other devices is the same program) only have codes for devices released 6 months or more before the remote was programmed.

However, any universal remote that is newer than the TV (by that 6 month programming period) should control both devices. Low end universal remotes may not support all of the features of either the TV or the Blu-ray player. The remotes that can be programmed via a USB connection to a computer are the fastest to set up. (Alternatives: You can use both remotes when watching a movie or get a Viera link Blu-ray player that is compatible with the TV. For the second option, you need a device with the HDAVI Control (not above Control 5) connected via a good HDMI cable)

I wish that I had better news.

If in warranty: Contact the manufacture and return the device per their warranty policy

If this however is not an option for you the best bet would be to remove the screws from the back of the device and under the device until the top facing is loose. Should be 8 in total. From there use a small machine screw driver (can be bought at the dollar store) and remove the tray device. CAREFUL as there are sensitive ribbons that can either be torn out or broken upon doing this. On the left side of the tray device should be a little gear connected to a small slot motor. This is where your issue lies. If the device is jammed you will be able to un-jam it. Otherwise you will need to replace the part.

www.sparepartswarehouse.com would be a likely avenue to look down for a replacement part, the code for the part should be printed on it in small black font.

If this doesnt seem like the course to go down then the next action would be to seek a local service shop that does electronic repair.

Hope that helps!

I have a Samsung BD-P1490. When I turn is on the display reads "Load." It never displays "No Disc", or trys to play a disc if one is present. I have never updated the firm ware. Any ideas?

No disc error can be a DIY like the following steps.

Assuming that the disc is good.

1.Cleaning the lens. - Sometimes because of dust the lens can't read any disc.

Try clean the lens by soft cotton buds. Be careful while doing this.

2.Replacing the ribbon - Check the ribbon connected to the lens from the main board for scratch, damage. Once it has an open line then of course the lens can't read the disc. Also try to erase the contact by pencil eraser.

If you've done the steps above and the symptoms still there then the next step requires you a little knowledge in soldering technique and reading the ohmmeter.

3.Checked the motor - Check the motor that spin the disc with an ohmmeter. You can test it using the ohmmeter (x1) even it is connected on the lens assembly.

Good motor - reading should be fairly high and it will spin.

Bad motor - reading will drop to low resistance and will not spin.

Hint : 50% of my repaired unit the above parts are commonly caused of the problem.

If you confirmed that you have a defective motor then replace it with a new one. Before replacing the new motor you have to check the clearance of the disc holder with the old one. The clearance should be the same as the old because if not the lens will not read the disc if it is too far or too close.

If you already cleaned the lens, and confirmed that the ribbon is good as well as the motor then I've advice you to send it to repair shop because the next step should be done with an expert because it is quite technical diagnosing the fault between the pick-up lens and the main board.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using fixya.
