YesI when the unit is first turned on the laser will emit a red light when scaning, if no beam is present it is time to replace your player, not cost effective to repair.

Using wrong media or bad drive.

"REPAIR"

Because the disc was left in the unit after recording and the power plug was unplugged later, the track number and

recording time data have been cleared without being recorded on the disc.

While "REPAIR" is displayed, the track number and recording time data are repaired by tracking the recorded area. Further

recording or finalization is possible when the display returns to the previous condition. Tracking the recorded area takes about 40 minutes if the disc has been fully recorded.

sounds interesting

did the power fail during recording?

have you tried putting the cd back in the machine?

you should be able to finalise it as long as the PMA completed

the disc wont come out normally untill the PMA rec message finishes.

i have this machine myself.

there is a mode that will scan a disc if the PMA is missing

if power was turned off during recording it usually enters a "REPAIR" mode when turned on again.

this takes 40 mins to complete but the audio can be finalised as normal after it completes.

try putting the disc back in and see if it can be repaired or finalised

I had this issue as well. The manual says to unplug and re plug to electric, but that does'nt work. I opened it up and carefully un binded the draw to open and close, but it finally died last night. So disappointed!

maybe the laser has dust on it. If anything open it up and gently clean the laser with a Q-tip. You also can lubricate the laser slide poles with "Lubriplate" cream. This may stop the skipping. I love mine too but it died last night after 10 years.

I had the same problem with mine. The manual says to unplug it from the power and plug back in. That did'nt seem to correct anything. I also was having an issue with recording. It would'nt record data for tracks and recording would scramble. I had this burner for 10 years and loved it untill last night when it crapped out on me completely. I am VERY disappointed!

Hi,

1) Disconnect the unit from the mains supply for 30 minutes to see if it will reset itself then power up again. If this fails to resolve the error then troubleshoot optical lense as below.

2) Dirty laser lense causing the unit to have problems in reading the disk. Use a CD lense cleaning Disk which you can purchase from any audio or computer store

3) If the error remains and you feel confident to do so you can open the unit and look for the glass laser lense - usually blue in color. For safety sake be sure to disconnect the unit from the mains if you decide to do this. Use a cotton swab and some isopropyl alcohol to gently wipe the lens in order to clean it. Allow to dry naturally for a couple of minutes before re-assembling the cover on the unit.

4) If cleaning the lens fails the drive unit may be faulty or misaligned within the unit itself. In this case the drive unit will require service attention and need to be replaced. On some units you can reset the drive by holding the power button for 5 minutes whilst the unit powers up. This may or may not have an effect dependant on where the fault is located internally.

Obviously you should check that any disks you are using are clean and free from scratches.

Hope this helps. Please do rate my answer. Many Thanks

The HHB CDR850 is identical to the Fostex CR300. They are both made by Pioneer, based on the PDR-555RW. The Fostex service manual is available free in pdf at the Fostex Usa website. Scroll down and select the service manual for model CR300.
